Getting drunk with rugby players is popular with the Japanese girls, eh? I'll keep that in mind. Anyway, spoiled brats. I saw a bunch of them at my school, Japanese who came over here with no intention of studying English or American culture, apart from what they can learn from skateboarding around campus during class and getting horribly drunk at exchange student-only parties.

Oh, as I said before, my friend reported the same kind of behavior in many of the people who went with her to study in Japan. I think it has to do with absolute distance between you and your parents. It is all the excuse fuckheads who hide their punkass behavior need to go totally wild.

well if the japanese girls actually got drunk with rugbee players then i wouldn't have a problem. Because then they would be learning English.

Also we gotta remember that sometimes it' sjust really hard to make friends with the natives, no matter with country you're in.

But, I would agree that those who do'nt try at all piss me off.
what a waste of time.

Japanese exchange students

Postby kamome » Sun Jun 09, 2002 12:24 am

I have tons of Japanese friends who are/were exchange students in the US. Even those who speak pretty good English rarely attempt to make friends with the locals. It's a strange phenomenon--young Japanese in Japan are dying to meet foreigners, but then many crawl into a shell when they go abroad and only hang out with other Japanese. They are locked into a defeatist mode of thinking, like "I don't know/I can't/I never have a chance to make friends with other Americans". And they all date within their own group--ALL of my Japanese friends were dating other Japanese exchange students. Very few were dating Americans--it's strange when you consider how commonplace mixed couples in Tokyo are.

Regarding American students in Japan, I don't know what they do. But I personally try to keep a balance between Japanese and foreign friends. My gaijin buddies help me to maintain my sanity sometimes.
