No real increase, it's just my parents coming over twice a year instead of once.

It's just because Oz is a complete rip-off at the moment.

Yes this is so true. I am shocked at how much prices have increased over the last decade.

Also, prices of flights have dropped dramatically since Jetstar started the Japanese routes.

Another factor is that travel agents have really been pushing the skiing destinations and selling packages. Skiing in Australia is ridiculously expensive and the snow is no where near the quality in Japan.

Japan has had deflation for much of the past 20 years while the rest of the world has had consistent inflation. When I first came to Japan a lot of stuff was more expensive here than it was in Canada. These days though I find Japan is cheaper for many things or that prices are pretty comparable. Guess things met in the middle at some point.

Certain things like Uniqlo and clothes.. yes, but other things like the price of food and gas are not.

Actually I find the price of food is pretty comparable for many things. Fresh fruit is cheaper in Canada but lots of other things are similar in price.

Gas is definitely still more expensive here but the difference is nowhere near as big as it was when I arrived in 1993.

I guess food was a vague example to throw in. What I should have said was where the shit is produced. Most domestic fruits, vegetables, meat, and rice are expensive when compared to imported ones. I guess that is solely due to the unusually strong yen-dollar exchange rate right now too but "made in Japan" is just downright fuckin expensive.

How is it you teach English when you are unable to speak it (or write it) properly?

It's not McTojo's fault. Everything he says or does is perfect. His English is perfect. He said so himself.

The problem is that he's a scholar (he said that about himself too) of such importance that there's a secret underground organization (JACOFS ... Jingai Against the Country Of Four Seasons) that's messing with his posts in order to discredit him. He didn't specifically name the organization, but he did actually claim on several occasions that the reason there are so many stupid errors in his posts is that someone is surreptitiously altering them.

It must be really difficult to make a scholar of such towering intellect look like a complete idiot, but those JACOFS are doing a damn good job.

Got an unsigned gray dot for the above post (whoopee!).
Gray: doesn't that mean it was bestowed upon me by someone who has a negative rep with all red dots?

Hmm ... I wonder who that could have been ... :nihonjin:
