(UKPA) – Feb 9, 2011

Glaswegians have the most attractive accent for Japanese speakers of English, a new study has revealed. The Glasgow accent came out on top for social attractiveness to Japanese people learning to speak English, a survey by Northumbria University found. Spain followed this decision, but other countries, like France or Germany (not under 12) had a different rating system. Ken Loach and Paul Laverty protested against the British procedure in the Guardian.

Paul Laverty asserted that this was "censorship" and "class prejudice" because he got a lot of information to write his scenario from people around Scotland, many of whom were not 18, and were thus denied the opportunity to see the film.

That's like saying Japanese rate french fries healthiest foreign food...when you find out the other foods they had to choose from were deep fried Twinkies and bacon covered cheesecake.

So they had 2 colorful native accents, and 2 standard ones, and the Japanese picked the colorful accents as more socially interesting?

Wow
Is there a Nobel Prize for Sociology?
No?
Shocking.

Still, having 2 native speakers probably trying their best to TALK LIKE ROBOTS in a standard accent, you'd think Japanese would LIKE that. ;)

Shit, i grew up in Scotland and I still dont understand what Glaswegians say!

As for the JP, I think they like to not understand what people are saying. (that way they can justify spending even moar moneyz on Engrish lessons!)
