The source you quoted should have dropped the "approximately", message says exactly Shibuya Hachiko (square) Friday 18h59', why author had to write hiroba is beyond comprehension, I am still to meet anyone, not mentioning Japanese, rather a foreigner, calling the place other than plain Hachiko.

The following 'interview' with lead singer of UK metal band "Radio head" sounds like an infomercial in NLP.

"TWITTER and FACEBOOK are increasingly the means by which popular movements throughout the world are able to come together and mobilize.
"I have been so moved by the peaceful Jasmine revolution in Tunisia [and] the anti-Government demonstrations centred on Tahrir Square in Cairo."
He added: "SOCIAL NETWORKING has helped facilitate the freedom to assemble peacefully and express oneself."

I think I need a barf bag.

Friday night at Hachiko? What can they possibly do with the crowd at that time?

Hiroba is not that common in kaiwa. Simply used as an "open area." In other words, someone will be in the general area of "X". In this case the open area around Hachiko. Makes since to me.

my guess is that an open bed truck with big speakers like the uyoku's will show up and theyll start playing. if the shit gets wild, theyll just bail out of the scene

Sense about spoken vs written mentions of the place?
Quickly scrolling messages on my keitai + PC inbox fixing appointments at Hachi.......nope, no hiroba written.
I have Hachiko u, Hachiko mae & Moai zo no mae, but no hiroba.

What pedant is going to write hiroba? Doesn't matter, such a person does not deserve to get close to normal people.

You messages are about meeting people. Radiohead were talking about a place for people to assemble. In that context, the tweet was fine.

Hardy Har Har. The joke is on you. It appears to be a hoax.

Indie rockers Radiohead have announced that they will not be playing Tokyo. Though Radiohead are a politically motivated band with many of their songs having a political edge, the statement referrers not to a Japanese current affairs issue but to a cryptic posting on their website which mentions Tokyos Hachiko Square in Shibuya, together with a time, 18:50 (JST) tomorrow, written in Japanese.
