I know quite a few Germans and deal with them on a daily basis, I like them a lot better than the Japanese, actually. What's not to like? They swill a lot of beer, eat a lot of sausages, schnitzels, bacon and potatoes, they generally are a friendly bunch, they are world-class engineers and they made their country a nice place to be. Over the years I actually developed quite a liking for Germans and Germany.

[quote="AML"]Of course I dont hate everyone just the attitude that people have.

It just pisses me off because its like they didn't learn ANYTHING from fighting and loosing the war!

If anything, Japans rise to economic power has made them even worse....

They are still incredibly racist, and look down on Chinese and Koreans (is it any wonder they still harbor resentment towards the Japanese?)

And now that they have all this money they think they can do whatever they fucking want and get away with it!

At least the Germans learned not to be (total) dicks!

Rant over. ]

{because it's like} is such a faggish syntax. Sorry to point that out to you.

What do people really learn from wars? If there were any lessons to learn, you'd think we'd have achieved world peace by now...? What you just described in your triad is a common human feature found in every single country in the world. I just don't get your point?

You should do yourself a favor and read John Dower's 'War without Mercy' to learn about what the American were really like during the Pacific War.

No one is ever a saint during a war.

But at least we admit to it! Or it has a way of getting out. (wiki leaks)

Just hate the way they pretend that nothing happened. They hide it from the younger generation by not teaching it all. My wife is oblivious to what Japan did during the war. (nankin and now section 731)

And it just pisses me and many people off, because its like (Tojo :D ) when people claim the holocaust never happened!

Wow, you must be one of them self-hating Dutch ;)

Germans generally make horrible first impressions. Once you get to know them they're like anyone else. The accent never ceases to sound terrible though.

When I was younger I thought everything was relative and you had to fess up to your own "war crimes" before you could critisize anyone else. I also thought that in war you had to take the moral high ground as much as possible and be better than the enemy. Now I don't give a fuck. All I care about is my side (Western liberal democracy) winning. That doesn't mean I support every war the US or the West gets into. However, once we go to war, we should go to fucking war. If the West and Muslims world ever do get into WW III, I'd like the US to start things off during the height of the Hajj with the the Kabah as ground zero for the biggest ugliest nuke we can build. You've got to let the enemy know you aren't playing around.

The Japs should have been made to apologize and pay reparations the way the Krauts did. Not because they were wrong or evil but because they lost and should've been treated like losers.

McTojo wrote:Most people know very little about atrocities committing against native Americans and negroes because it's not kosher to talk about.

Agree and disagree. Atrocities against blacks in the US are very well known to the point where if one screams racism, slavery, or discrimination, the first thought most people have is the white vs. black examples. Unfortunately, Native Americans had it much worse and yet history books only brush the surface of the real history there. (much more racism, slavery, and discrimination than what was perpetrated against blacks...then there's the genocide, invasion, etc.) Yet, when you mention Native Americans to non-native Americans, they tend to brush off the issue with something like "well, they have their casinos and reservations."

In any of these issue with any country/race/people, you can't change what's been done but officially acknowledging it and putting a detailed account of it in your country's history is the least they can do...

Not true my friend.

The situations were comparable, but at least Native Americans weren't dragged away from home to another continent.

No, they had their continent dragged away from them while the genocide took place. Last I checked, there were still Africans and their cultures still alive in Africa.

Yes they were. Africans were dragged away from their land and then became chattel.

You've got to hand it to people sometimes.... no my people had it worse... no my people had it worse.

Last I've heard slavery is still alive and well in Africa, but not by the evil white man. And as far as WWII goes, ask anyone from Hamburg or particularly Dresden what they think of the British and the Americans.

Besides that. There is no excuse for bombing civilians, no matter who does it.

Yeah, I'm sure surgical airstrike whould have stopped the Third Reich and Imperial Japan from taking over the world. Next thing you're going to tell me is we should have used non-violent resistance.

Anyway, refer to my earlier post for my thoughts on what is and is not acceptable in war.

Throwing a bit more light on our "no country is guilt-free" discussion (and this isn't even war-related):

Shocking as it may seem, U.S. government doctors once thought it was fine to experiment on disabled people and prison inmates. Such experiments included giving hepatitis to mental patients in Connecticut, squirting a pandemic flu virus up the noses of prisoners in Maryland, and injecting cancer cells into chronically ill people at a New York hospital.

Seems you missed my original post/point that while the natives indeed "had it worse", the conditions and history of it are glossed over compared to how much of "black history" is covered in schools. The reason isn't race either, it's much the same as Japan glosses over what they did to the Koreans, Chinese, Taiwanese, Ainu, Okinawans, etc. etc.

That sucks...but there the victims there were not treated for a disease they previously contracted. Really shitty situation but not really on the same level of injecting diseases into unwilling patients. (or infecting Native Americans with smallpox blankets)
