We are looking for a qualified English specialist to supervise a new English program for TV Tokyo.
Details:
[INDENT]-Program will be a 2 minute long daily English program for TV Tokyo
-The program will run for a minimum of 6 months
-20 segments per month split into 2 recording sessions
-Starts from March 10 [/INDENT]
Responsibilities:
[INDENT]-Translate original Japanese script into English
-Adjust and correct script as needed
-Supervise recording and filming sessions (4 sessions / month) [/INDENT]
Requirements:
[INDENT]-Valid Japanese Visa which is good for at least 6 months
-English teaching credentials (just a college degree won't be sufficient)
-Ability to translate simple Japanese script into English [/INDENT]
Recommended:
[INDENT]-Professional teaching experience at a Japanese university
-Fluency in Japanese
-Previous experience supervising English events, programs [/INDENT]
Compensation:

Not exactly.

I once filled in as a writer as a scab "temp" at NHK's engrish division when most of the FG staff walked-out in 1991.

TV Tokyo wants you to do "4 sessions / month" which means 4 half-days of wasted in the recording studio with endless Japanese "meetings" for those 2 minute recordings. They are paying 25,000 yen per recording session.

Still kinda kool, heh?

Nope.

That "original Japanese script" will be insanely vague drivel. You will be held responsible for translating into engrish and then "adjust and correct script as needed." In other words, you will magically turn chicken shit into chicken salad.

But and this is a big BUTT, that "adjust and correct" of the script means your translation will take a half dozen edits back and forth with the Japanese director(s), writer(s) and butthead bucho. This means several endless Japanese meetings-from-hell, which are unpaid of course.

Bottom Line: When all your time wasted in re-edits, meetings, and counting the holes in the acoustic ceiling while waiting for Godot in the recording studio, your planned "40 min for 100,000 yen" will be more than 40 ulcer-generating hours for 100,000 yen.

If you just need company I can send one of my cats over, you will have to pick him/her at the train station, and they don't like bus or metro, just taxis.

Bathed them both last week so not much shedding.

They come for free but you have to provide kibbles (KFC preferred, but Mc Nuggets can do too), laser spot and other shiny toys. They can also kill anybody/anything you don't like for a can of human-grade tuna.

i wish. unfortunately it's not that entertaining. it's a meeting with two of our three main importers. they are extremely important meetings, so even though they speak and are pretty good in english, i need to do these in japanese.
