Well, I ain't glowing in the dark yet, so must still be okay here.

Evar seen a wind turbine failure ? Like an helicopter crash... But think of it like an event where nobody really give a frack and people usually climb it till the last minute to clutch / declutch or try to apply brakes with even more on the ground looking at it failling Nascar style 'w00t Cletus, it's gunna crash'... The "it'sa justa big propella, can't be that dangerous" mentality is actually quite fatal...

A slightly morbid question, but has anyone here evacuated?
I know of one European that left the country with his family on Sunday... (and I'm getting pressure from my other half to flee south from Kanawaga-ken ASAP as the nuclear situation develops).

Fuuuuuu....

All this panic hording seems to be creating a bigger problem than any of the stuff they're talking about on the news. Where are they going to keep all this extra food? The pantry? Their fridge/freezer they're going to lose power on when the blackouts start?...sooo lame.

Someone I know living in Chiba, but on the border with Tokyo, said he and his family are heading to Osaka. I would like to go myself, but we can't even buy gas to put in the car and then where would we stay. Plus, my wife is a nurse and she doesn't want to leave her hospital.

Yeah, I left while there still weren't any queues at the gas stations. Packed the car with survival gear and headed west. My wife screaming to me in the phone that reactor 1 just exploded had something to do with my decision.

Every one of these stories is riddled with errors and important omissions. It's sickening. What is up with this crap reporting?

Radiation HAS been detected in Tokyo. Radiation is in Tokyo every day. It's everywhere. If any monitoring device is not detecting radiation, it's broken.

And on top of that, the maximum radiation detected in Tokyo this morning by a city monitoring station was 20 times normal "natural" levels for a short period of time But you know what? That's still infinitesimal. It won't have any effect on anybody's health.

The navy ships detecting radiation are reporting the same thing if you read the details. It's elevated from normal levels, but so what?

If anybody believes in science, let me know and I can post some numbers. But if I have to sit in this radiation for 500 hours to reach the same level as an abdomen x-ray, I do not consider it dangerous, much less newsworthy.

A very good friend of mine is a travel agent and he has been inundated with calls & emails from people trying to leave. Apparently the German and US embassies have been contacting citizens who have registered with them and telling them to leave the country if they can. Of course pretty much every flight out is packed, there just isn't much availability.

People from Canada are calling/emailing me and asking me when (not if!) I'm going to leave, and I'm well over 500km away in Osaka!

Lots of people being fed fear by the news networks and are in all-out panic mode.

If any FGs are headed Osaka-way let me know and we can at least use this chance to have a mini-FG gathering for beer...

Interesting that they're saying that. I called the Australian Consulate in Osaka today just to make sure they had all my details and ask them what their latest advice is. They said to stay put and check the embassy homepage for the latest information. So that's what I'll do.

Not evacuated yet, but I'm planning to go to west Ehime tomorrow to check on an old house that my wife's family has kept locked for the past eight years.
Reason being that I'd like to get my daughter who is four months pregnant away from Yokohama.

Im wondering the same thing with a lot of people running away....

Your risking loosing your job over some media fear mongering?

Wait for irrefutable proof before committing to extreme action that might result in the loss of your career and life in Japan.

I wonder who is doing all the selling? If you had money it might be a good time to invest in Japanese stocks. I think that they will come roaring back, or at least they will return in short order, this is just panic selling, just like all the house wives panic buying in Tokyo.
By the way have you noticed that most of the TV commercials are Ad Council of Japan. Does that mean nobody wants to advertise during a disaster?
