Yeah these guys did it too soon and now they're thieves. I wouldn't want to fall into that category.

I've tried staying away from FG in the past because it was so easy to find a good third of my work day gone from reading all of the great posts.

An earthquake followed by a nuclear accident... well, will there by any work tomorrow?

What's with that early warning alert on AU/Docomo. Softbank doesn't seem to have the same thing...or at least it's not functioning.

The Xperia doesn't seem to have that function either on the Docomo network if you are using their sp-mode mail app. You apparently have to use the i-Mode appli to download the early warning system...

i completely feel what youre saying bucky

now - does the reporting on the nuclear sittuation seem more dire coming out of western or japanese news sources.

my wife seems more positive than me, telling me theyre putting people back in when my sources are saying the people have been pulled out (a hella bad sign)

Looks like the Australians are leaving too

Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd wrote:Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd on Wednesday urged Australians who are in Tokyo and disaster-affected areas of Japan to consider leaving in light of the developing nuclear crisis, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

This is how it's done, rather like water bombing wildfires:

Video from NHK Japan shows two helicopters in the air over reactor No. 3 at the Fukushima Daiichi. According to NHK, one helicopter is supposed to measure radiation levels at the reactor while the second helicopter is supposed to drop water on the reactor.

Yes, thanks. Compared to many others we're living the high life. Our inconvenience seems trivial by comparison.

And to think that just a couple weeks ago I was writing words of encouragement to you!

The New Zealand Government are not urging Kiwis to leave, however they are advising against non-essential and tourist travel to the affected areas including Tokyo. (http://www.safetravel.govt.nz/news/index.shtml#japan)

"There is a high risk to your safety in prefectures in Japan affected by the earthquake and tsunami and we advise against all tourist and non-essential travel to these affected areas in the north east of Japan until the situation becomes clearer. We also advise against all tourist and non-essential travel to Tokyo and surrounding earthquake affected districts due to the risk of disruptions to essential services such as transport and electric power."

Air New Zealand has vowed to keep their regular schedule and are even putting on larger planes. CEO Rob Fyfe is currently in Tokyo supporting staff there.

I have a few friends in Utsunomiya and surrounding areas who are considering leaving but getting to Tokyo is apparently a bit too difficult right now so they are just staying put and seeing what happens at this stage. Needless to say their parents are more worried than them after watching the hysteria on the news ...

Thanks, I knows... Just that calling specifically on the JSDF for water bombing duties in ridiculous, fire suppression helo are quite specific (i mean the internal tank and hose ones)... Itwas just someone taking a cheap shot at the army.

But on a side note, I find dramatically counterproductive for all their equipement and mens to be in Olive drab colors. Since any redeployment involve a specific camo anyway, might as well keep them UN white or yellow/striped in normal times for rescue duties... Hell in yougoslavia we even had white Leclerc battletanks (the one with 1 forward and 4 backward speed gearbox...)

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
