Despite a massive build-up of forces to counter the threat of foreign hooliganism for the World Cup, most of the trouble police have encountered has come from Japanese

Deport those bastards...oh, wait.

WTF?

Postby cstaylor » Mon Jun 10, 2002 3:34 pm

Things were somewhat more violent near JR Shibuya Station in Tokyo, where three youths were arrested for obstructing a special public officer after they gang bashed a policeman

Are the cops in this country so weak that 3 kids can take them out? Where's the pepper spray?

Yeah, maybe they should have held up signs saying `Please be quiet` and `Move`. Those have been so effective with the foreign fans.

I was watching the Beat Kitano movie Violent Cop a few days ago, there is this one scene where this unarmed and seemingly untrained guy beats up three police officers that attack him one at a time, then gives another one a baseball bat to the head, and outruns the remaining officers (none of whom are armed or seem to be very good fighters). Is this anything like how police work goes in Japan?

Anyway this guy rounds the corner and these three policeman jump out and start hacking at him with absolute no skill or aforethought whatsoever. Sort of like a five year old bashing a toy randomly with a hammer. They must have hit him about 200 times all the while screaming and flailing the air. They also hit the hostage about 20 times too. Eventually they got totally exhausted, threw down the swords and simply jumped on him together with about forty other cops.

I was very disillusioned by this. :(

I`m curious. Do people who train in kendo practice with wooden swords at all? The difference in weight between wood and bamboo is quite noticeable and I`d think you`d tire yourself out fast using kendo technique. I did a bit of iaido in the past and the movement was very different.

Nobody was injured when the man rammed into the police line, but it created enough of a diversion for 143 people to leap from bridges crossing the Dotonbori into the river. None of those who took the plunge were injured, but dozens were arrested for breaking an ordinance forbidding people from being a public nuisance.

I don't get it. Where's the nuisance? So you have some people jumping into a river. It's not like anyone is going to use it for drinking water. Christ, it never ceases to amaze me how anal retentive and yet ineffective the Japanese police are. They're still chasing the bosozoku without any luck.

Well I did Iai and jodo (short stick) too and the wooden sword (bokuto or tachi) is used quite a bit. Getting smacked by one of those suckers will *really* make your day. I read it was Musashi's favorite weapon.

Ahhh Musashi, the homicidal lunatic that lived in caves, ate insects and never washed. Japan's samurai hero

My friend from South Shields, England lived in Kyoto for a couple of years and while he was there took it upon himself to research and then visit all the places where Musashi fought and killed somebody. Not the usual sightseeing trip, right.

He kept a photo album of all these places together with a complete record of when, how and who Musashi offed. When ever sombody came to visit he would roll out the old slide projector and retell in great detail each and every gruesome event. It was always a great party stopper.

You've really gotta admire somebody like that. :D

Their is a semi-fictionalized account of his life out. It`s an interesting read though it does take some liberty with the facts.
