Australian PM Conveys Specific Immigration Proposal to Naoto Kan

Australian: Perth boy Ashwin Cresswell's letter touches Japanese PM Naoto Kan
A SMALL Australian boy's message of compassion in the face of Japan's devastating Sendai earthquake found its way to Tokyo tonight as Julia Gillard played postman to Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan. Perth eight-year-old Ashwin Cresswell wrote a letter to Ms Gillard in the wake of the March 11 disaster after seeing television images of Toshihito Aisawa, 9, who lost his parents in the earthquake and tsunami. Ashwin asked Ms Gillard to pass on to Mr Kan an invitation for Toshihito to come to Australia and live with his own family in Perth. Part of the letter read: "If he (Toshihito) can't find his parents he can stay with my family. He can also play with my toys and go to school with me. Would Toshihito like to stay with us?" Ms Gillard met Ashwin on a recent visit to Perth and agreed to hand over the letter. Last night, after receiving the letter Mr Kan brandished it in front of the Japanese media and declared: "This is a heart-warming feeling that we have from Australia. "I have been feeling the warmth of hearts all along from the beginning (of the earthquake emergency)"...more...

One of my students was in OZ on exchange at the time of the disaster. He told me another exchange student over there (14) lost his entire family and has yet to return to Japan as he has nowhere to go.

Not sure what message your smilies are supposed to convey but the previous two posts were rather serious in nature...

I was just listening to NHK and apparently Toshihito declined when he heard that rooboy was Australian.

Well, if a picture tells a thousand words, I thought lots of smiley faces would display just how heartwarming and happy this story had made me feel and expressed those thoughts using easy to understand pictograms. Apologies if it was difficult to understand. Perhaps I should say it more slowly for you next time?
