I always feel sorry for the PMs of Nippon. It's like the job comes with a target attached to their backs.

People are looking for ways to blame him for the handling of the crisis, but would anyone have done any better?

It's all just a circus designed to satisfy the Japanese need for watching "taking responsibility stoically" and "deeply and respectfully apologizing" rituals.

This may sound like a sign of a culture where accountability and responsibility are highly valued, but sadly this is not the case at all.

In truth, they are just getting their "tradition fix" by going through the motions and rituals but without ever making a genuine attempt to find out and understand what the problems really are, what the truth is or what/who is actually right and wrong.

This is part of a larger human phenomenon: just like in any other social structure, the most common way to deal with problems is not dealing with them at all. Ignore them, pretend they don't exist and they will go away on their own, or so is believed subconsciously.

Sticking to nonsense until death is the most defining characteristic of a human social construct.

J Politics has been f'd up for a long time now. Which is sad, because I think there's plenty of smart, talented people in the country who could do the job properly, but won't get a chance due to irrelavent reasons (barakumin, no conncetion, wants to do their job properly, doesn't bribe, etc.)
