tattoo

Postby tone » Mon Jun 20, 2011 4:12 am

im an idiot - i felt like getting tattoo'd and now that ive come back to reality i'm worried - if we live in tokyo for a little while, while my wifes dad battles ALS, will I be not able to swim or play squash?

its on my inner forearm - not a big deal where im from, but i know Japan is harsher... what kinds of sittuations outside of conservative onsens might i get kicked out of?

ive heard disneyland isnt pro tattoo

what else? are there public/kuyakusho pools and tennis/squash courts that wont mind, or will I have to be Long Sleeve LaRue all the time. how about just walking the streets, getting into bars, that kind of thing. if i have a short shirt on, will i have to be prepared to get kicked out of just about anywhere?

shee-it, im an idiot

I know many public pools which don't seem to have a problem with it.

Like many things if people don't mention it you will probably get away with it.

If it's only on your inner forearm as you indicated, then you should be able to cover it up relatively easily with a bandage.

Bandaged wounds that could be possibly infectious: Okay!
Tattoos - even tiny ones of Mickey Mouse: Dame! Abunai!!!

Last I heard, vile gaijin with tattoos were being hung, drawn and quartered with their pinkies cut off for good measure, followed by post-mortem castration with the, er, culled-sack, shoved into the mouth to remind the fiend not to sully the sacred waters of Japanese hot springs or swimming pools.

But that was only what I heard....I think you might be all right if it's not too ostentatious.

I've only been "requested to cover my tattoo" once at the gym, and the staff person that did the requesting has not been seen since (No, I had nothing to do with that, nor if I knew anything about his disappearance, would I be in position to admit so). More often, I get J-folks asking about it. Heck, best thing you can do, is ask them "If you could, what tatoo would you get?" Helps them get out of the mold they are so often encased within. Don't sweat it.

I have "War & Peace" tatooed on mine.

Anyway, Tone, as people have said you can swim in some public pools. Few private gyms in Tokyo are big enough to have pools anyway. I've heard that the Tipness in Roppongi allows tatooed people to swim. Gold's Gym requires you to keep them covered. My friend had a tribal band on his upper arm and used to wear one of those elastic headbands to cover it when he lifted. I think the only places you really have to worry are onsens and public baths. Otherwise it won't be an issue in most (any?) other situation.

Some people have found that cutting off the limb at a point just above the tattoo works well and you never have to worry about covering up with a bandage in public baths, pools and gyms all the time. Other people find that having two hands more useful.

It's a tough decision.

Please, I have a reputation to maintain. It says "Welcome to Heaven, Hell, and all places in between. By inserting this inside Slot A, you will be taken to another dimension, from which a safe and sane return is impossible. Did you just drop a contact lens? You'd better bend over to pick it up.", in 14 font Courier New (bold, of course) in 19 different languages, including Latin...nuns are hot:drool: .

Dood, that's category 1 (UN2814), level 4 hazardous biological waste, I don't even know where to start searching for the paperworks for handling this kind of things... And i'm only in a P1 facility... (*)

(*) Big classification name for what normal people call a kitchen or a bathroom... But always funny to notice that on the same scale at only P4 level you basically need to have your hairs and balls shaved before leaving the lab...
