Tsukiji is burning

Postby sublight » Wed Jul 13, 2011 9:14 pm

Just a heads-up.

From the fire escape at my office I can clearly see flames and sparks flying up from inside the shopping area around the market.

Wish I had a camera.

Quite a bit of twitter chatter about this too:

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

NHK News just said the Tokyo Fire Dept dispatched 33 fire trucks and 1 helicopter. 4 buildings (100 m sq) have burned down. It wasn't clear whether or not the fire was out yet or not from what they said but there are no reports of injury at this point.

Inside the office, it smells like someone's had a campfire in here.

Someone here just commented, "do you smell grilled fish?"

Had no idea what was going on a block away or what all the sirens were. Some folks really have an eye (nose) for detail.

Mercury's boiling point: about 357 C.....feels like we might get there around 1pm today. Melting point is Siberia in winter.
