J-Footballer, Naoki Matuda, dead at 34

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Thu Aug 04, 2011 2:24 pm

Looks like he passed away in the hospital after having a heart attack during training.

He was a wanker as a player...fancied himsef as a bit of an Asian defender Francesco Totti...but dead at 34? Poor kid.

Speaking of Totti, one of my favorite memories of soccer is a group of British blokes who decked out a team of American women in Italian replica kits all bearing the name "Totti" and the poor players unable to fathom why they attracted so any titters from the sidelines.

Isn't it good for your heart??

I'm worried more about keeping my teeth than a heart attack :-? (though my Jappy teammates all seem to hate wearing mouthpieces)

I've only watched a couple of J hockey games in person, and there wasn't a whole lot of rambunctious activity going on. A Canuck buddy of mine played for a couple of seasons in Nagano, and he went home with all his teeth intact too.

Pretty decent fight last game, last season one of my teammates lost his front teeth and has been out with a neck injury for most of this season. It really depends on the team though, besides me, there are only 2 goons on my team. Some teams are all finesse, won't check hardly at all and take hits like rag dolls...others get rough and the intimidation (or anger) tends to suck the other team in and off their games. Tonight we're playing one of the rougher teams, mostly jobless, former Asia-league guys that do nothing but hockey. Not going to be an easy game.....

Uh, no. Over training is not good for your body. If you're a pro athlete, you're over training.

If that's the case I'm moving the beer fridge next to the couch, just to be on the safe side.

...my belly fat says else wise but they probably have a much crazier training schedule than we do. Mindless repetition to the point of injury seems to be the Japanese way.

I didn't say exercise was bad for you. I said over training was bad for you. If you do an hour of hard exercise 5 or 6 days a week, that's great. If you do do 8 hours, not so great.

Yeah, that's what I meant by mindless repetition. Seems like most of the players here, like their salaryman counterparts, need to always look busy, even if it's overdoing it to the point where it's dangerous.
