so over here, are crosswalks just suggestions of where to cross? there is no pedestrian right of way on uncontrolled crosswalks, the bigger vehicle basically gets to go?

Usually I see the opposite? Someone's crossing and the vehicles all stop. I fear human/mamachari traffic at crosswalks more than the vehicles.

While we're on topics like this, rather than create another thread titled "Elevators," I'm amazed at the laziness of some people here. Almost every day I see shufu and young 20 something womens taking the elevator down 1 fucking story rather than walk down one flight of steps. I'm sure there are some people with issues that aren't apparent but not likely as many as I see daily. So WTF?! Half the time I see someone with luggage, a handicap, etc. that actually needs the elevator, they have to wait or make room for these lazy bums. This morning I used it to go up rather than block the escalator...was helping a lemur with 3 suitcases (she ain't marking her territory, leaving anything at my place!) and 3 Waseda baseball players decide to crowd in the elevator with us. Lazy fucks...
