Is it worth coming back to Japan?

Postby Oradea » Tue Oct 04, 2011 5:18 am

We are considering returning to Japan within the next 12 months. Is it worth it? We left in 2008 after 8 years. Was considering rocking up without employment, and then searching when I get there, but things seem pretty tight. Looking for work in finance, or failing that, I don't mind teaching again, for a while. A short while. A very short while.

On top of that, any current job sites that are any cop?

Depends on where you're from? I certainly hope it's not, but I just assume right now is Japan's last dance. If I ever leave again, I can't imagine there being much left to come back to.

In my honest opinion, even before the Earthquake, the mood was dismal here.

Let me join in the chorus and say no fucking way.

It seemed like business was picking up for awhile but as of this month I'm seeing signs of some more very dark days on the horizon. I don't think it's worth leaving what you're doing and moving anywhere right now unless you already have a very good job lined up.

Good stuff. I'm in investments. Singapore may be tricky for visa's. It's either Japan or staying in the UK. I don't think we'd return to Japan without a job lined up first right enough. Good to see so much unison right enough;)

vague... any corporate type of investment house is in cut mode rather than hire mode... IFA*s will always take people but there is no salary... so I would AssUME that you are not an IFA...

You can always try to hit up the life companies in HK for some positions...

but declaring what you actually do with investments would be much more helpful... none the less... there are not many (if any) jobs in the finance are ATM...

*IFA in japan meaning your typical cunt who sales "investments" but limit themselves to pension/savings plans and direct/PPB funds.

Sing and HK aren't tricky if you have a job lined up with a sponsor.

Fuck, I can't believe it when posters w/J spouses act like they've got no options. Lemme tell you straight, OP -

No, you won't get a job in finance. So many gaijin in that field have left along with their companies the last 4 yrs or so. Even if companies are staying, it's cuththroat for a job in finance in Japan. Full stop.

Use your Japanes wife as the ticket to opening your own English school. You're lucky - you can work for yourself immediately. Rent a house, advertise in the neighborhood and around companies etc and you'll have your students. The trend is away from bigger/big eikaiwa and into neighbourhood schools.

Work for yourself, be your own boss without some fucking J or gaijin assclown or bitch pushing you around and giving you crap pay and crap hours. Just make sure you research the curriculum needs well and have decent materials as well as a good structure for your school's lessons re levels etc.

Fucking hell - wish I had a J wife for one reason, to open my own bloody school. You're already in the box set, just go and do it.

Freddie Ljungberg is a class act. He doesn't particularly need the money so joining a Japanese team is really just a way for him to keep playing. Good that he had no qualms about being in Japan.

Investments is a broad term.

Best to find a job in the UK and come to Japan as an expat unless you are a derivatives trader or know about synthetic investments, then you will make a fortune in Japan.

Are you in investment banking? Traditional investment banking jobs are rare in Tokyo and do not pay very well. I have/had many friends in that field and they were unhappy.

If you want more info send me a private message and tell me what kind of investments you are in and I can shorrt a few email addresses your way.

Interesting Jack. Didn't you used to run a web service on bank funds out of Nigeria?

i was talking with a flyer in roppongi and he said that if you could get about USD3000 to get the computers and space to launch that project you could be rich...

he also said that when the dumb fuck goes to Nigeria to meet the people for the reward, etc. that they would just throw them off the bridge near the airport...

classy

Or is the economy that dismal right now?

If you're good at making money, you'll do it anywhere, anytime. In that regard, Japan's remains a decent market if you can tap into it.

Having said that, I'm planning my decamp (after 23 years), but it could be a while before I can leave yet...

Its always worth comming back to Japan just as long as you have the right attitude towards the Japanese.

I take it you might be Teaching English right?

Well, if that's the case, then don't do what some of the English Teachers do: Only want to Teach Mon~Fri / 8:30~5:30.

I found out that if you are willing to Teach English on the Weekends or on Evening Hours, you'll gain more respect from the Japanese, and they'll appreciate your attitude in that way.

The one big complaint that English Students have are their Gaijin Teachers only want to teach Mon~Fri during business hours, and never the Weekends, because the Teachers want to be off on the Weekends to travel or party.

Anyway, whatever it is that you decide to do in Japan when you return, just have the right atttitude and you'll enjoy your return to Japan.

Dam, who wants to walk through life disrespected?

Money and Bitches...those are just material things.

I've discovered through my many years of living in Japan, that if you throw away the Western Dominance Attitude and respect the Japanese (at least in their own Country), they'll treat you like family.

And you'll feel much better about yourself as a Man.

You talk about getting J-Chicks? J-Chicks want a Man...a Real Man...a Hard Working Respectable Man.
