anyway. So Sony will be able to market their phones more aggressively (and successfully?) in japan now? SonyEricsson has/had actually been doing better than expected recently with the new SE xperia family.

In my estimation, inconsequential news...it's already too late for Sony...they fell asleep, as is the case in other consumer electronics markets and will continue to eat shit in this market while their competitors in this space, namely Apple, Samsung, and HTC leap frog past Sony's "a day late, and a dollar short" efforts.

Sony will finally make its own cellphones, absorbing the joint-venture it established with Ericsson in 2001. The time it took for this decision to move from evident necessity to execution -- about 3 years -- is effectively a benchmark. If you struck Sony on the head with an axe, or punched it in the balls, it would stand still for 3 years and then say, "Ow."[/INDENT]

SonyEricsson has/had actually been doing better than expected recently with the new SE xperia family.

I have one of their Xperia Go's and for as underspec'd as it is, Sony allowing officially rooting it meant easy removal of all the crapware that it came with made it faster than my newer SH12 that is almost twice as powerful on paper. If they keep going that direction and actually catch up, I think they'll make a decent comeback in that market.
