SONY 'make believe' business

Postby Taro Toporific » Wed Nov 02, 2011 7:25 pm

I was going through the top stories in Yahoo News and I had an epiphany giggle when I saw this photo that accompanied the report of yet another fuckque-up by Sony.
I don't know why I never paid attention to it before but Sony's slogan has been "MAKE.BELIEVE" since 2009. Fitting.

Sony shares plunge as investors question TV revival
TOKYO | Fri Nov 4, 2011 3:21am EDT
(Reuters) -
Shares in Sony Corp (6758.T) fell nearly 10 percent on Friday as investors questioned whether the Japanese firm can successfully turn around its loss-making TV business after it warned the unit is set to lose $2.2 billion.
Sony shocked investors on Wednesday by warning of a fourth consecutive year of losses, further denting confidence in a firm that was once a symbol of Japan's high-tech might...
...Under Stringer, who said in March he was happy to stay in his job for another year but was unsure about his plans beyond that, Sony has succeeded in restructuring to some extent.
Sony has sold off overseas TV plants and outsourced more than half of its production to companies such as Hon Han Precision Industry. But Stringer has failed to make the business profitable.
The New York Post reported on Thursday that Stringer may resign as CEO by March next year. Sony declined to comment...more...

Probably the most famous Daigo comeback of all time.

just found out that on SF3:3sOE this is on one of its parry trials... you basically have to do exactly what Daigo did to complete it... not so hard, but if you were under the mental pressure (wich daigo usually has 0 of) it would be hard as hell to pull off.

the hard part is getting the first parry as you have to parry before Chun's SA animation starts. good times doing that (30 minutes of my life)

Sony in Big Trouble with PS Vita

It's old news now that PlayStation Vita isn't selling very well in its native Japan. As we already reported, Vita is off to a rocky start, only selling 72,479 in its first full week on the market (from December 19th through December 25th) after pushing about 325,000 in its first 48 hours (on December 17th and 18th).

This precipitous decline hasn't gone unnoticed in circles outside of the gaming realm. In fact, Forbes tech contributor Tero Kuittinen has written a scathing article titled "Sony in Big Trouble with PS Vita," outlining the problems the company is currently facing with Vita.

Kuittinen notes that Vita's "second week brought devastation," especially when compared to Nintendo 3DS' second week on the market. Nintendo 3DS was widely believed to have had a terrible start, only more recently pushing bigger numbers now that games players want have finally starting arriving. Yet, 3DS sold 370,000 units in Japan in its first week, and 210,000 units in its second. In other words, it beat PlayStation Vita by 45,000 units in its first week, and a massive 137,500 units in its second week...

Article can be found here.

Racing games on the IPod are so good (tilt steering being mind blowingly good even compared to my Logitech G27). I don't see the point of the Vita...

My former PSP turned into a car GPS after catching the dust for 2 years straight... Formula 1 games were absulotely unbearable with the fucked up mushroom pad. The 4 button direction pad (instead of one big round cross) was making streetfighter games barely playable.... Gran Turismo arrived WAY longer after everyone stopped giving a fuck anf was just a port of GT4 while the 5 was out on the PS3...

seriously... fuck you sony...

A few of my friends had heard of it in the States when I mentioned it, but every one of them said right away they didn't think it would sell because everyone has smartphones now that keep getting better and better at gaming.

This will be a total train wreck when it is released over seas.

What a joke. It is too little too late.

Ya think an Entertainment/ electronics giant might benefit from employees who can express their talents and opinion? How many decades did it take Sony to figure this out...?

They are asking Japanese college grads to stop being Japanese in the interview. What a waste of policy. It goes to show how fast Sony is sinking that they resort to something so shallow.

Sony Boasts 500,000 Vitas Sold in Japan
During Sony's keynote at CES, executive deputy president Kaz Hirai announced that 500,000 PS Vitas have sold since the platform was released in Japan last month.

Sales of the PS Vita have been lackluster: Just three weeks after release, it was reported that the console's weekly sales had dropped below 42,000, selling fewer units than its predecessor, the PSP. Breaking 500,000 units by CES would indicate that sales had improved in the last week.

Sony also announced that a Netflix app is in the works the PS Vita. Hirai said that Netflix is trying to have the app ready for the console's US launch at the end of February...

double the price as the PSP, the first lineup of games are... so-so, and it cant play PSP UMDS...

sorta why the PS3 got off to a rocky start... everyone wanted PS1 and PS2 compatibility, so when those models got off the shelf, people waited for more to come... but never did.

not to mention the 6 month life span for the original ps3... a big wtf.

i wonder how long the vita will last... i dont really want to spend 3man to figure it out, but i want one so bad.

will it get hacked...

all the boast to the DS series for having longer battery life... well...

but i hope this is not their main selling point...

Sony more than doubles net loss forecast
AFP | Feb. 2, 2012
Japanese entertainment giant Sony more than doubled its full-year net loss forecast to $2.9 billion, a day after announcing that its president and CEO Howard Stringer would step aside. The firm on Thursday said it was expecting a net loss of 220 billion yen ($2.9 billion) for the year to March, up from 90 billion yen previously, in what will be its fourth consecutive year of losses. Last year the Tokyo-based maker of PlayStation consoles and Bravia televisions lost 259.6 billion yen. Sony also announced a net loss of 201.45 billion yen for the nine months to December, having made a profit of 129.22 billion yen in the corresponding period in 2010.
