Tokyo film festival to open with 'Like Asura'

Postby Steve Bildermann » Thu Sep 25, 2003 4:58 am

When the Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Toronto film festivals are all finished, it's time for Tokyo to wrap up the year.

The organizers of the Tokyo International Film Festival, the last of the year's 10 biggest film festivals, announced last week the lineup for its 16th annual staging, to be held in Shibuya from Nov. 1-9.

Yoshimitsu Morita's Like Asura will open TIFF and Finding Nemo is set to close it. Based on a Kuniko Mukoda novel, the story of Like Asura is recounted through four sisters who suddenly discover that their father has been having a long-running affair and has another child. Finding Nemo, an animated feature by Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, has been a huge box office success in the United States and is scheduled for nationwide release here on Dec. 6.

Among the Japanese entries is Isao Yukisada's A Day on the Planet, a film that looks at events taking place in the world during one day, including a get-together of six university students.

And if all that wasn't enough, yes you're right GODZILLA has a new movie out - 'Godzilla Tokyo SOS' - Whoopeee!
