Japanese Police are the Best!

Postby Shibuya Me » Sat Oct 04, 2003 12:08 pm

There is a tactic in politics.... and family as well.

And for that matter, in family life as well. It goes like this. If a person brings up a point that reflects a negative light on somone, somthing, some issue...then it is normal and natural for others to say: Well, the other person, country, company are just as bad or even worse.....

Point in case: When my mother would say..." Shibuya Me! Why did you eat the last cookie before dinner?"

I would say to my mummy: " Welp! I only took one cookie. But Shibuya You ( my brother ) took three cookies.

Now what this does is take the issue off of me and puts in onto someone else.

It is a tactic. One a lot of you employ here.

I brough up the stupid ass Japanese police. All of you said:

" Welp! America is not much better!"

You are all just a bunch of uneducated fools if this is your tactic.

I thought all of you people were a bit more....smarter than to play " My brother took more cookies than me"

I laugh at your lack of understanding.

I do not mean to put you down. And I am sorry that I did. I just need to know that most people talking about this topic are just....well.....one sided.

I weap for you and all who voted for Arnold Schartenegger! Now that is a big joke! I like him as an actor...but to lead the people?

Say it with me...

" Shibuya me..you are so right! "

Hey, what happened to all the posts in this thread?

Not everyone disagreed with you, so try not to make sweeping generalizations about the members of this forum.. Of course, that was the reason so many opposed your original opinion; generalizing..

Why did you start a whole new thread?

Anyway, my problem with what you're saying is that you seem to blame the police more than the criminals for the crime. A girl was stabbed in her home and the police were just 20 meters away or whatever. Believe it or not, that doesn't necessarily lead me to the conclusion that the police are to blame. First and foremost, I have to blame the man with a knife. Sometimes I think the Japanese police could do a better job. There may be some racism, even. But like a lot of the posters here I just don't have any real reason to hate the Japanese police. The legal system and the prisons seem like more controversial issues to me.

And another example of the police doing a good job (because saving the girl who called on her keitai was cool as hell. You can make light of it if you want but anyone can see that that was some impressive police work)they finally caught the arsonist who killed five people at a Takefuji building in the worst crime in the history of Hirosaki. It took a year, but the police stuck with it and systematically tracked down and caught the bad guy.

I didn't take part in the original thread, but - for the record - I consider myself to be an educated fool. :P

The original thread is here
Shibuya Me was taking such a beating in the comments there, maybe thought starting a new thread would sweep all those 'cookies' under the carpet..

This thread began (and continues..?!?) with you saying the Japanese Police Suck or whatever.. THINK ABOUT IT.. You Started the obvious comparison to other countries..!!! IF, the focus of the original rant was specific to the individuals involved, that would have been more logical. But with those sweeping statements about all police in Japan.. comparisons to other countries then became inevitable.

When and perfect example of them doing a good job came up a day or two later.. You made light of it..

Sometimes they do a pretty good job protecting girls who need help..!!!

Abducted school girl uses cell phone to lead police to attacker.
Mainichi Daily Oct. 1, 2003

KUMAMOTO -- An abducted high school girl used her mobile phone to lead police to her attacker's car, sparking a chase before he was arrested, officials said Wednesday... After the chase, several police cars and a helicopter surrounded Uemura's car at about 9:30 a.m

Wow! So I don`t get it...how did the police do their job?
It was the girl who called police and led them to her!
What did the police to as far as real police work?
They followed the young girls directions! Wow! That is so great!
That is really difficult!
Thanks and good try. But the Japanese police SUCK and if you will all just admit it instead of trying to pin point that the Japanese police answered a phone call from a young girl...then asked her...
" Welp"! What should we do little girl? Okay. Uh mmm..Sure..we will help you. Be right there! Good bye!"
( That was a phone call...) Yes! The Japanese police can answer a telephone! :D

Whew.. Now I know your a Total F.G..

So please tell us then, where in the world do they have Psychic Cops..?!? Maybe you watched too much TV as a kid?!?.. "My Spidey Senses are Tingling".. Face it.. your ranting yesterday about how fuckin lousy they are (like its unique to ONLY Japan) and then insisted we talk about only "local examples found in the paper" and so here you go, with chopper and all, saving the young girl within an hour of being kidnapped. Hmmm.. whatever, it really rubs me the wrong way when people use an isolated incident to make Sweeping Generalizations sound like they are everyday Facts.

You never did answer my question about
"Where in the world do they have Psychic Cops..?!?"

Now instead of letting that thread die out.. you picked the scab by trying to start a 'new' one all over again..?!?! "WELP" it would have been better to lick your wounds, and be a little more careful about making such gross generalizations in the future, unless you like getting flamed.

I think Jim Katta summed it up pretty good on the original thread, that you tried to bury.. maybe read that again, and think twice about calling the people who post here "bunch of uneducated fools"..

jim katta wrote:
What kind of a site is this?

SM,
Well, I know what kind of "thread" this is, it's a thread where the original poster makes sweeping accusations about a police force of a country (some that are in fact legitimate), but the original poster doesn't seem to understand why other posters would compare japan's police force to others in industrialized nations...

YES, japan's police force has problems, but there's no way you can fairly comment about such a thing and NOT allow others to compare it to other police forces around the world. I'm sure you have a point about that incident with the girl (was she your friend or something?), and yes the Yakuza are allowed far too much under japan's police, but I'm sorry, after having lived and traveled widely around the world, I just do not consider Japan's police to be "particularly" bad or deserving of some special distinction as poor officers. I also understand that you are talking about JAPAN and maybe wanted to stick to just that police force, but since few on this board are native japanese citizens, I think it's unrealistic for you to expect that we NOT approach the topic from a global experience point of view. Perhaps your passion would be better directed towards some japanese citizens who are only experienced with/concerned about japan.

... Hey, if you really think Japan police suck that bad, try living in Los Angeles and hold THEM to the high standards that you profess in Japan. I'll wait to read about you in the paper. :D

As for this part of your most recent post]I weap for you and all who voted for Arnold Schartenegger! Now that is a big joke! I like him as an actor...but to lead the people?

Say it with me... " Shibuya me..you are so right! "

WTF..?!? I noticed a few times you wanted people to say "Shibuya me.. you are so right!".. How Pathetic. I tell ya what, if you wanted to rant about how whacked the Japanese Court System is, most folks would have to agree. I can't remember where (Maybe Taro knows) but, I saw a thread recently about a Judge here who had been on the bench 10 years and Never Once found the accused innocent..!! Now That is F*cked. I'm not sure what Arnie has to do with this at all.. it makes me wonder 'How long have you been without your medication'..?!?

WTF is going on here?....What has that got to do with anything? Why do you seem to think everyone else is here in California? The vote hasn't even happened yet! And how dare you speak against Arnold.

 8O

'Shibuya Me', everyone here keeps speculating as to your age.
PS: This outburst will not stop the speculation.

But you are right in the national comparisons: People trying to put down their own country at the drop of a hat in an attempt to score a cheap point are embarrassing sellouts.

If someone want to kill, he will do it anyway..sooner or later. The police can only try to do their best, they can't be someones's personal body guard for 24 hours.

http://magazines.ivillage.com/goodhousekeeping/myhome/friends/articles/0,,287164_570693,00.html

The police did nothing to help. In a confrontation with the town's chief of police, I wept as I said, "This guy is going to kill my daughter, and you're going to have to live with it because no one will do anything about it! You mark my words: He's going to kill her."....

...At half past midnight, Justin apparently plowed through almost a foot of snow on a U.S. Forest Service road. According to the police, the truck careened down an embankment, coming to rest in an old mining pit some 400 feet from the roadway. All three young people were apparently thrown from the Toyota Tundra. Justin broke his wrist; John lost consciousness. Later John testified that when he came to, he heard Cassie crying and begging Justin to get help. John said Justin refused.

Around dawn, Justin and John walked out of the wilderness; a passerby picked them up and gave them a cell phone to call the hospital and their parents. Neither mentioned Cassie to the driver or to anyone else. Later that day, while being taken to another hospital, John was lucid enough to remember there was a third person in the pickup. "How's Cassie?" he asked an attendant. It wasn't until then that Justin was confronted -- and he told officials he had left Cassie behind.

It was early evening when a sheriff's deputy made his way through the wintry backcountry terrain. More than 300 feet from the roadway, he found Cassie facedown in the snow, arms and legs askew, like a rag doll dropped and forgotten by a child. Clad only in a shirt, jeans and sandals, her body was frozen solid....

I quit my job at the state department of health and welfare and cashed in my retirement savings to lobby for a new bill. I called state legislators and handed out pamphlets describing Cassie's life and death. Taking language from laws in other states, I expanded the definition of domestic violence in Idaho to include dating relationships that involved minors. Sponsored by State Senator Jerry Thorne, the bill specified that a minor victim or the victim's parent or guardian has the right to seek a protective order. On July 1, 2000, "Cassie's Law" went into effect, making Idaho the 25th state to implement dating-violence laws...

Note: The national Violence Against Women Act with its Cassie's Law addendum is now federal law. Last October, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft appointed Barbara Dehl to a two-year term on the Justice Department's Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence. Dehl has created a Website -- http://www.thecassiefoundation.com -- that both honors Cassie and provides links to online resources for young women trying to escape an abusive relationship.
