Man I swear those are Bora (someone else wiki the English) they come up the rivers from the ocean just like that and look just like that. Could be wrong though and a JP Mountain Trout looks different. (Could easily be wrong. Did y'all know apparently we do not eat Bass here? It is a well known fact amongst the locals apparently.)

Yeah I am pretty sure they eat Sea Bass but not freshwater, large or small mouth and the like. I got looked at like I just spat on the emperor and much sucking in of the teeth for even asking about it at a couple of fishing stores. A Japanese friend says they don't like the texture.

スズキ is sea bass, right?

It looks like it according to the wiki it is Japanese Sea Bass. I think シーバス is a more general term for any ocean bass. Who knows, they call オオクチバス and コクチバス ブラックバス sometimes too. There was a warning thing in one of my fishing books talking about how it all gets confused.

You asked for random so here it is. From the annual 土佐刃物祭り last weekend. Tosa is a very famous blacksmith region of Japan in Kochi-ken going back I believe to the Edo era. They hand forge forestry, farming, mountain, etc tools. Axes and Natas and the like, with blacksmiths that go back 3 or more generations. It is some seriously manly stuff and one of the great things about Japan is that this craftsmanship still exists. It is also some serious Inaka, farms nestled amongst big old steep mountains, so you know... at the festival we had the world's oddest scarecrow contest. Few pics..
