Have yet to see a singul Austin Powers... The whole "you have to laugh at this shit because we say it's funny, plebe !" sorta putting me off... A bit like every Sacha Baron Cohen's movies...

Hard to disagree there. Michael Meyers has been funny before, and maybe will be again, but that Austin Powers stuff might well be one day indicated as the day that humour went into the sewer and never climbed back out. And just to be fair to SBC, the original ALi G TV show, and especially the interviews, were epochal triumphs.

Ever since then he's been a rather sad git in increasingly silly outfits and accents.

The proles do seem to enjoy it, though, in these days of post-objectivist non-hierarchical value affirmation.



So, anyways, on the subject of comedy, did they get their Aussies, and did they insist on the ones with the Shrimp on da Bahbey accents???? I had never encountered that sort of hardcore racism in Japan until I went for a TV casting call. My ass hurt for days, too

The TV shows were quite excellent, it's the "let's milk this shit one more time" movies that were abominations. Also, in other peoples movies SBC is a good actor. saw it first in Taladega Night, t'was surprising...

Director thing there, me thinks. MM directed the increasingly putrid AP series that he also wrote and appeared in, and SBC wrote and produced Borat in addition to his acting role. You get a good actor like say Robert DeNiro...pair him with a weak director and RDN sucks; pair him with a stronger director and there's hope for the film.
