Ken-chan,

I do really like that. Do you have any other images you can show?

Hey thanks guys.
I like to draw and create artwork as a means of self expression. As a Japanese American Nisei, I am still dealing with my Asian American Identity. So naturally, my work with meaning has stuff to do with that, others are just plain silly. Here are a couple more...

Ken,

I really like the image of the 2 Kendo fighters. It really reminds me of some pictures by Jack Vettriano.

http://www.vettriano-art.com/

I have always thought that some aspects to Japanese culture would always lend itself to that style of paintings. Bold, simple vivid tone definition to give a sort of romantic effect.

I've had a look at your webpage. I envy you very much indeed. I would of always loved to of been an artist. But instead I ended up a VLSI design project manager, working under crushing schedules and not being able to show any design/innovative nature. You are lucky in that you get to do what you love.

BTW, the other picture have a massive manga influence. I wonder in the future of art, how much manga will have an impact as it spreads out from Japan to other cultures.

I didn't realize what your second painting was until I saw the third one, but they're really impressive. The name on the armor reminds me of when I do use to do kendo, I think you captured the 'do' strike strike really, really well. Awesome piece.

Your art work is farkquing great...you need to follow themes more and doodles less. Hook up with a scenario-ist. Think: "What does the kendoist REALLY want?"
"Who/what is opposing/preventing him?"

Then, draw. Draw variations. And then if you want, link 'em into storyboards.

Speaking of dealing with "Asian American Identity"...here's Frank Liu opinion via neoimages.com. My iisei-friends in the States are forever muttering the inverse.

wow thanks for the comments guys.

I've been pretty tied up in terms of free time recently, but still have plenty of ideas in my head that I'd like to get out on paper. I will be sure to post them up here, I have a feeling they would be appreciated here due to the nature of the pieces. I hope that my content will reflect that more and more as I grow as an artist as well.

Taro Toporific: That piece is very nice. I am assuming the artist is of Chinese decent,...but I bet he gets that alot. I always get asked if I'm Chinese. I get used to it. I am Nisei, so when I was in Japan, people thought I was Japanese, and when I opened my mouth, they thought I was some retarded Japanese. I don't know what's worse...being white in Japan and being labeled an outsider, or looking sort of like an insider but just being a low low insider. Those were tough days back then. But because I understand foreigners' plight, I am very sympathetic to the Japanese exchange students I meet in Seattle.

Very stimulating, this forum is....
