Pulling a train...

Postby Taro Toporific » Wed Nov 19, 2014 4:17 pm

Seeing this photo in an unrelated Google Image Search, the first thing that came to my mind was:

"Holy baby buddha…since when does the Shinkansen have Nissan advertising on its side?!"

When I checked I discovered that this Nissan 350 Z Roadster’s “TRAIN” print ad is quite old (2007) and French. :cry2:

Merde, tricked by Frenchie* trompe l’oeil advertising.

*Is this a TGV train??

best answer is: "sort of"

got the major design clues of TGV Thalys/Duplex rolling stock, with few details completely of.

Also, the engine 3225 is not of this variant at all:

Is that the Gare du Nord in the background?
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Since it's a transmanche super train it's a possibility...

But the name of the shop behind (...supplay...) feels weird...

It's familiar somehow - but maybe not Gare du Nord. But I have seen it before - or something very similar.

North, east, Lyon and Austerlitz station in Paris are quite similar... Maybe even saint lazare...
Only Montparnasse is unique in its uglyness...

I would have trouble recognizing Austerlitz myself, despite having spent countless week ends trainspotting there...

Is "Montparnasse" French for "Birmingham New Street"?

Wait, they have trainspotters in France?!

Mont... Like small hill... parnasse like... The fuck if I know... i hate this place... Too much Bretons and fish restaurants...

As for trainspotters... Well... In the country who make the fastest train in the world and at the same time have never been able to make anyone respect any kind of schedule you can file most train users as de facto trainspotters...

I would link GIS for Birmingham New Street but that wouldn't end well.

Google image search reveals that that train is a re-purposed channel tunnel train now doing the Lille to Paris run. It was photographed at Lille Flanders station. I have indeed done that trip a couple of times so that's why the station looked familiar.

Pretty much... the saying goes like "the place to have the most beautifull view of Paris is on top of the Tower Montparnasse, because it's the only place where you can't see it ruining the lanscape" And that shit is an engineering abomination too... 59 levels of concrete... Voted the 2nd ugliest building on earth just after the Boston city all. The single reason why it is now illegal and absolutely forbidden to build anything higher than 7 stories in Paris intra muros...
