Have Japan’s “share houses” become a target for women seeking gaijin baby daddies?

If you’ve ever flipped through the pages of a glossy Japanese fashion magazine like Vivi or Non-no, you might have noticed that quite a few of the models are half-Japanese. For various cultural and aesthetic reasons, a mix of Japanese and Western facial features is generally considered extremely attractive in Japan, and there’s an increase in the number of Japanese women who believe that the key to creating gorgeous offspring is to have their own “haafu” baby.

In order to satisfy this desire, some women in Japan have taken quite calculated steps to help make this a reality, including purposefully moving into international share houses in order to be in close proximity to Western men.

LOL, I know that type of lemur all too well. I guess the kicker was her immediate planning to get the kiddo into "baby modeling." Poor kid but 2015 society still says mama knows best!

I know some mixed couples who got their half kids into modeling at a young age.

I have always resisted this (monetary) urge, because it would send the wrong message to my kids that it would be their looks and not their character that counts.

From what I've heard, it's a scam and there isn't much money in it. Instead of you could be a movie/AV/etc. star!! The incentive is mostly one-upping your peers with "well MY kid is a fashion model!"

No, what counts is to give your kids a proper upbringing.

And letting them develop an inflated "I-am-a-model"-ego doesn't fit in that framework.

Ever noticed how uninteresting those fashion models and celebrities are as humans?

Ya know what Russel, I said the exact same thing to my wife. Only difference was I think it was some crazy validation for her that she made the right choice marrying a FG.

The stepson of an FG acquaintance (wife 10 years older, stepson half-Puerto Rican and about 15 years younger than said acquaintance) apparently makes good money from modelling, enough to have sorted the uni costs.

Aye. It is work - and quite hard work sometimes. Daughter did a couple of shoots for a childcare book because an acquaintance's wife was the editor and she asked nicely. That snagged us quite a nice souvenir but it was plenty to persuade us that we didn't want to do any more and that it is in fact, work.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Japan Octopus Robot Can Move Through Rubble
Japan Real Time - WSJ / Mar 18, 2015
The Octopus, a robot developed by Waseda University and Kikuchiseisakusho Co., navigates an obstacle at a demonstration in Fukushima, northeastern Japan, earlier this month.
BN-HL690_joctop_G_20150317223157.jpg
Japan’s Waseda University and Kikuchiseisakusho Co. say they have created a robot that can maneuver through rubble for use in disaster-hit areas. The 1.7-meter tall “Octopus” has four arms, four caterpillar tracks and weighs 700 kilograms. It is designed for deployment in rescue missions and for removing rubble in areas including those contaminated with high levels of radiation.
