Firms working to keep women

Postby Big Booger » Thu Dec 04, 2003 9:27 am

An increasing number of corporations are seeking to put together programs aimed at helping their female employees with childbirth and childcare in the hope of seeing them climb higher up the corporate ladder.

Some companies have set numerical targets for hiring more women in an attempt to better utilize the female workforce.

Compared with their counterparts in the United States and Europe, Japanese businesses are said to lag behind in providing such support to working women.

Grrreat satire/comedy Big Booger!
Is "The Yomuri Society Report" like the Onion in Japan? :liar:

Most company "childcare" programs are outsourced---they're moneymaking kickback scams.
Here at Maybe-the-Largest Inc. married "full-time" female employees are denied company condos (less the 30,000yen/m) because they are not the head-of-household. My lead engineer, a woman katcho, is denied a company condo even though her husband is an unemployed, disabled by a stroke, head-of-household. The national labor union says this denial is "zenzen daijobu/perfectly ok". This is the same policy in the other Maybe-the-Largest Incs such as NEC, Fujitusu, et al. And don't even get me started on the never-pay-full-pension-to-females policies of ALL Japanese companies.
