So there I was, smugly enjoying watching Tokyo peeps freaking out over a centimeter or two while we had no snow at all up here. That was this morning. We now have 10~15 cm and it's still coming down hard. Nothing compared to the other side of the island, but it'll probably end up being 20~30 cm and that means it's snow shovel time!

Fcuk ...

At least we can be pretty sure it'll be gone by Monday.

Well this part of the other side of the island has only added 3 cm today to the bit we had stocked up already. El Niño Pacific Coast snows.

I can be pretty sure that this 3 cm, plus the 120cm+ stocked up, will still be there on Monday.

I'm sorry ... did I say 10~15 cm? Make that 20 cm and counting. I don't think I've ever seen it pile up so fast here.

Just did a once-around with the snow shovel and by the time I had gotten from one end to the other there was already a few cm piled up where I started.

There was that record snowfall last year when we got about 50cm, but that was a "record" and I'm hoping it won't be repeated (or surpassed) this year.

I had to dig my car out from a parking lot in Tokyo this morning...that was waaaay more than a cm or two. Near the office, it was just rain and slush though...

I'm kind of disappointed by that poor excuse for a snow storm we had in Tokyo yesterday. Though not having lived anywhere that gets real know in more than 20 years, I don't really have the clothes to deal with it. No point in buying boots that I'll probably only have to wear a few times a decade.

You could look into some of the newer school Ice Grip overshoes; they seem to be a sort of rubber web rather tha a solid overshoe and they give good grip. Sartorially it's a bit like wearing socks with sandals, but I have been doing that since I came home to find I had chucked out all my winter gear last June and all the stores are out of my size in anything I feel like wearing.

Here's an example from a quick Goggle

http://www.aliexpress.com/item-img/Cleats-Over-Shoes-Boots-Studded-Snow-Grips-Ice-Grips-Anti-Slip-Snow-Shoes-Crampons-Cleats/32261807197.html

Also, if you can fit a 28.0 cm shoe there are rubber Tabi for 3000 yen, and Tabi are always in season. They're like the old black and red gumboots that were made in Czechoslovakia or somewhere such. Tres Chic

Anyway, I do hope this stuff settles, I'm so looking forward to the detailed explanations on breakfast TV for Tokyoites on how to walk (or at least not fall over) in snow.

According to overexcited commentators on TV there's a chance commuting conditions tomorrow will look somewhat like this:

What's weird is that Yahoo Japan Weather show snow for Tokyo all day but when you click on the various -ku or -shi forecasts is says rain or mixed snow and rain.

Himmelfück aus dem Holy fucking fuckity shit...

i leave Toyohashi blue sky sunshine and reach Nagoya in a blizzard storm...
Leave Nagoya 2130 with 3cm of snow on the cars, trains late and as a fucking bonus bring back the weather with me.
The time to pickup Meatball at the daycare and it was already snowstorm here...

Bonus, the felines seemed to have feared I was gone forever and always. Now not leaving enough room to breath... at least they'll keep me warm tonight, unless they pull a Tauntaun and eviscerate me in my sleep to be even moar warmer...

Yes, very amusing; wifey went into full panic mode tonight, when she drove us to an internet-café, where they still have Windows-computers. Wonder, where she left her winter driving abilities. Back in the day, when we lived in alpine Europe, she wouldn't blink at any amount of snow. Maybe too much watching the bitching baa-chans on J-tv; she believes everything they say despite her own experiences, unfortunately...

Light cloud cover with 10 degrees and no wind here in Van. In another week I think we will have to declare this the winter that never was. Which would be fine if I weren't a skier.

Oh well; it sure makes life easier. You kids stay warm and safe.

The temperature did drop pretty damn quickly yesterday though. I definitely had some frosty nards on the way home last night.

It is snowing pretty heavily up here at the moment. A bit too much for this time of year. Shouldn't last too long though. Hopefully.
