Anyone got any cool Japanese fonts?

Postby Mr Doricar » Mon Sep 03, 2007 6:16 pm

I need to convert a logo into Japanese. The text is easy. 4 Katakana characters and one Kanji. I just want to do it as funky and cool as possible. If you have any fonts or can point me in direction to get them please let me know.

Thanks

James

My company sells them.... sorry I have no free ones though. What software are you using to create your logo? Plus what is your OS etc.

Hey, ta for quick reply.

Windows XP, probably using Illustrator and a bit of Photoshop.

Do ri fu to Kuruma is the text!

You know, there are some Japanese fonts installed with Illustrator and Photoshop, I don't know how it works on Windows, but on the Mac it's set up so only Ill and PS can access them. They're definitely not "funky" or even interesting fonts though.

Your best buy for commercial fonts is the Dynafont Open Type collection by Dynalab. I bought the CD a few years back, it has like 100 assorted fonts, I vaguely recall paying something around Y10000. The assortment is quite wide, with many styles, both traditional and modern. Works great in Illustrator, PS, etc.

Haha that was a bit lame :p Bit wrong too ;)

It should be do ri fu to in Kata then Kuruma is one kanji character.

I was hoping some kind soul might want to do it quickly in photoshop or similar for me? :) Pretty please with sugar on top?

Agreed on both counts. Dynalab have some nice fonts.

Stay away from ones like Osaka as they are just ugly.
Typebank have nice ones

Ok guys, thanks.

I'll have to look into spending money then. Are you 100% sure I can't entice you to do it for "lollies" though? ;) I found a Traditional Lollie shop today too.....:ninja2:

Time to zombie this bitch!

Can anyone recommend a good brushed J-font to me? (free would be awesome but I don't mind paying if it's reasonable) The best way to describe the look I'm going for would be "angry ramen."

Something like this...

I have a friend that does this type of brushwork for a living but what I need it for wouldn't do her justice and not worth bothering her over.

I don't think you will get a digital font which will rival a proper handwritten font.

Not so much angry ramen as chain sushi shop

That's pretty retarded when even a search with proper keywords give a shitloads of results to go through.
And the key parameter was not exactly the price...

True...I'm designing some new product catalogs and this year I'm going for a more local look than the usual amerika amerika kaigai look. Handwritten just seems a bit too far but then most of the usual J-fonts (readable ones anyway) get overused and don't all have kanji characters so there is always the trusty ol brush look...

waruta wrote:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=free+japanese+fonts

I know I know...but I wouldn't have asked here if I wasn't looking for something a lil more specific that someone on here might know or already be using. I've got a bajillion "different" JDM fonts but nothing quite like what I'm looking for with all the characters I need. Not cheap but then I do all the design for every brand I handle so not like I won't get enough use out of them. The one Take posted will work nicely! Thanks guys!

yes, when you consider how many kanji there are and how long it would take to write, scan and outline them all

THIS

Which is why there aren't many with full Kanji sets. But the average person that doesn't do any design...probably not needed.
