True - but if he is a good lawyer, dad will say very little. A few Yes`s, a few No`s - and nothing more. But best case is that he will not make it worse for her.

Or.... lie....

Yes, I sent those pills. No she has never taken them before, but I just wanted her to be arrested and deported so that she could be with me again. I could have sent her some black pasty stuff, or some white powder, or even some rather unique smelling bud, but I chose those pills since they would look good as a necklace. Or some such....

However, if it wasn't her prescription and dad admits to sending them he might have to deal with US authorities.

Yes - but they have no evidence.... the pills are safely in Japan. And `lying to a Japanese investigator` surely isn`t a crime in the US.

Salty, you're brilliant!

??? It isn't as if the pills have disappeared off the face of the earth - they are in Japan in the custody of the Japanese police so they "have" the evidence in so far as a court would care. Or not? Or I'm sure the Japanese would lend them for a trial if it were needed.

Isn't it also a specific crime to send prohibited articles through a postal system? I seem to remember the US had pretty strict laws governing communication and logistic systems.

It's looking more and more like the raid on Toyota was not just a formality to check her desk. Odd that she got such strong and quick support. So, what's up? Of course it would be absurd to think that someone could be romantically and maybe even pharmacologically entwined with her. Is she single BTW?

According to the Bloomberg article:

my foil hat is pretty dull,

Just a few facts:

Dad mailed whatever.....

The parcel went from Michigan to Louisville KY to Japan.

Little known fact: The United States Parcel Service (USPS) has not owned airplanes for a long time. Instead they offer "swaps" to the highest bidder. A "swap" may be an equal exchange of service or in the case of United Parcel Service (UPS) it's an exchange of services, tech and data. UPS has access to AMS which is the USPS's customer data and tracking system. If you have a US address and receive mail, you are in the AMS system.

The package went through Louisville KY, the UPS global hub. It's very safe to assume that the package had a 1Z######----- tracking number.

UPS doesn't care about screening packages, they do the legal minimum or less. Their "customs brokerage" unit makes deals with governments to get shit through faster.

KuroNeko sold their air and express business to UPS a few years ago.

The package is 100% traceable from drop to delivery so no one could have messed with it.

If dad sent that shit UPS second day global, it would have arrived without a problem, but he was lazy and cheap.

They're not legal if they were obtained without a prescription. Even if he obtained with with his own prescription giving them to someone else would still be illegal. That's the point. And the Fed have been really trying to crack down on hillbilly heron lately.

I'm not saying it's likely but I am saying it's possible depending on the circumstances.

It's kind of unfair, ain't it?!?

Dad just wanted to send his little sweetheart a nice candy necklace...

...and then it fell apart in the mail.

That's starting to make a lot of "ifs" with most of them far from being the postman business (unless they start to have authority to check for prescription.)

In France, sending is not the issue. Possessing is. The police can't do shit if someone send you second hand nukular dirty bomb until it's actually in your hands. So, there's a rule, if you see the postman bringing you stuff and there's a copper nearby. You refuse the parcel. Because the moment it's in your hand they can arrest you for illegal possession. (Mailman have carrier imunity). It avoid issue during trial were you can say you don't know who send or you never asked or it's a trap from the ill00minaty lizzard people...
It can also be confiscated by the customs. But in this case, it seems to be a different process for arrest of perps (plus there is the whole border crossing thing involved).

Oh, is he a known substance? Fair enough. So, drugs of unclear legality sent in a deceptive manner to a place where unauthorised import is strictly controlled, sent by a highly visible person that could have easily got a prescription in Japan, assuming she had a legitimate medical need. What's all the fuss about?? :cry2:

I think they only prescribe Oxy in Japan if you're on your deathbed with cancer or something like that. In America you can get it if you've stubbed your toe.

I think in Japan they would prescribe enough for a 2 week period and then make you see the doctor again for a re-script as well.

Sidenote, from what I remember, there a special license and test required for the doc to be allowed to prescribe these stuff.

Unfair to Debito. His and the Japan Times's crimes of error and omission surely pale into insignificance in comparison. Regardless, the great champions of truth and total nitpicking irrefutable accuracy over at Japologism haven't taken up their cudgels yet. Pesek laid the crime low - sorta like jay-walking, and said that if foreign execs are treated so harshly, for something EVERYBODY does, then no one - repeat, NO ONE is safe in Japan. Likely to be arrested for any presumed crime, so had better stay away.... Horse shit!

Having been arrested here for a "presumed crime" despite full cooperation, zero evidence, charges, and a prosecutor who basically admitted he knew it was a BS attempt to squeeze money from me...while I wouldn't say stay away, I'd say the system is fucked and it is prudent to be extra careful who you piss off/associate with...3 weeks, without evidence, charges, or any reason other than "because the law says I can" is not fun.

Yeah, his dismissal of the offence itself struck me as rather hysterical..........but it still smells of Debito to me........... Especially that red herring about a lack of arrests of Japanese nationals for incommensurate offences and how Japanese would have been let off for the same offence. I suppose it was the 8 year old yelling for teacher stench that reminded me of the Hair(shirt) Doctor's incisive cultural analysis.

LOL, might be worse...they went through my keitai....I don't even remember what was on there at the time but no telling what they copied from there and where that will end up. All I saw of that was stacks of printed txt messages at the prosecutor's office and a massive dictionary sized case file. (select all, print?)

Sounds like you fell to a scam - bad luck indeed, and if Pesek had tackled your case, I would have understood. But he tried to justify illegal activity - physical evidence present, etc. US business is in sorry shape if every exec is a wanabe criminal.
