I suspect his wife knows about cheating but I'm not sure. It was actually pretty disgusting once - he was drunk in a bar making out with this really annoying, fugly chick who nobody likes (the point at which this woman becomes fuckable is when you've drank way too much to fuck). Even if people don't know someone is sleeping around they often have a suspicion that something is wrong or choose ignore the obvious which still creates tension. I agree that men are more likely to be looked at as deadbeats even if they're doing a great job of being a homemaker.
