I think it was designed more as a farm/countryside vehicle that crossed over to military. Anyhoo, the popularity of 4x4s in the UK has nothing to do with bad road or weather conditions and everything to do with:

Model-by-model road accident statistics from the UK Department for Transport show that the Land Rover Defender is one of the safest cars on British roads as measured by chance of death in two-car injury accidents.[41] The figures, which were based on data collected by police forces following accidents between 2000 and 2004 in Great Britain, showed that Defender drivers had a 1% chance of being killed or seriously injured and a 33% chance of sustaining any kind of injury. Other four-wheel-drive vehicles scored equally highly, and collectively these vehicles were much safer for their passengers than those in other classes such as passenger cars and MPVs. These figures reflect the fact that drivers of large mass vehicles are likely to be safer, often at the expense of other drivers if they collide with smaller cars.

Which makes me hate the kind of person who drives them in an aggressive and lordly way more than ever. And there are a hell of a lot of the fuckers.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Aaaaa, Narooheso. In that sense the demographic is very similar to the North American one: self-important douchebags that shill for a living and freely share deep thoughts like "Time is Money, ya know?" and "Ya Snooze Ya Looze" and that actually believe the old L'Oreal catchphrase. I drive a Subaru wagon because I live in the mountains and it has unbeatable AWD, full leather and a double sunroof. And a Shiftamatica automatic, which is way cool, LOL. If I didn't, I wouldn't. I wouldn't drive a small car either, mind, but I don't drive like a douchebag.

I used the word 'civilian' since Renault, Peugeot , saviem and Simpar all made 4x4 offroader perfectly reasonably sized for civilian use.
The market was just never there...

our near pathological obsession with Front Wheel Drive might have also played a bit...

Let's all enjoy this early start of the rain season...

Never ask yourself how this country can get even worse...
Just look through your window and see it happening...

Perfect weather to sand some bookshelves outside under the roof of my parking.

Very wet, so not so much dust blowing around.

Misunderstanding.

The wood was dry, because under the roof.

The weather was wet, so lots of humidity.

Weird how fuel can be cheaper in Japan than Canada. Last I heard we have petroleum. One of you guys should figure out an air conditioner/dehumidifier that runs on kerosene. Or a car.

Gasoline at 94, but then the tank of our kei is on the small side. And, of course, sparkling S.Pellegrino, but there I don't know the price per liter, probably more than gas.

Since French heating fuel run any diesel car I'm pretty sure that the lack of issue have already been covered...

Canada doesn't do much refining, does it? Last I heard they wanted to build some big pipeline to the US, where the value-added magic happens. They are just so darn happy to sell it back to us for more.

birds of a feather flock together. good

your body gets to be cold from your feet.
wearing the above one and this indoors is pretty effective not to cool your body.

Can somebody explain to the slanted moron the concept of house/shelter and its purpose to shield/protect against the environment and protect from exposure ?
Living for too long in his blue tarp city under some bridge seems to have made him forgotten few basic stuff. He should try a cave or some abandonned subway tunnels as an upgrade...

Hint: if you need nearly as much clothing inside and outside in winter you're doing it wrong... Stop paying a rent and just stick to sleeping in the streets, same comfort, even bigger money saver...

I seem to remember reading it's also relative tax rates. Japan hardly taxes fuel (in comparison), we tax it like a MoFo. But I could see your argument being part of it. Feckin clodhoppers that we are.

Anyways, BOT: selling (and worse, buying) outdoor camping wear as indoor clothing is a sign that Skynet is about to become operational. But let's do remember our relative income levels. We think kerosene (or, more quaintly: paraffin) is dirt cheap. He thinks it an unattainable luxury. Hee hee. He's a neet guy. BTW, I love this idea of petroleum or gas powered air conditioning. That must blow electrics out of the water.

there is just a slight quantitative(not qualitative) difference between normal socks and camping thick socks. it means you need not to be particular about it. or you guys are on barefoot in the room? conversely if you stick to such a trivial difference, you should not wear any clothes indoors, while making your room temperature a tropical one.
and i just dont like the airs dry by heating, which hurts my skin and throat and the smell of kerosene causes me a bad headache.
