Reckitt Benckiser's apology to S. Korea NOT accepted

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Tue May 03, 2016 8:06 pm

Reckitt Benckiser sold deadly sterilisers in South Korea

British-based firm Reckitt Benckiser has admitted for the first time selling a humidifier disinfectant that killed about 100 people in South Korea.

The head of its South Korean division was attacked by angry relatives as he apologised at a Seoul hotel.

Reckitt Benckiser is among several firms whose products are blamed for the deaths.

It has offered compensation to the families of those who died, as well as the hundreds more who were injured.

Reckitt Benckiser withdrew its product from the market after South Korean authorities suggested a link between chemicals to sterilise humidifiers and lung conditions in 2011.

"This is the first time we are accepting the fullest responsibility, and we are offering a complete and full apology. We were late, five years have passed," Ataur Safdar said.

He added that the company was setting up a multi-million dollar humanitarian fund for the victims and their families.
Many are said to be children or pregnant women.

His apology was rejected by relatives at the news conference, at least one of whom hit him shortly after he took to the stage, and he was jostled and heckled.

About 500 people are reported to have died or been injured after inhaling poisonous chemicals used in humidifier disinfectants manufactured and sold by several companies in South Korea from 2001 to 2011.

This is a lot more chaotic than the Japanese version of these press conferences. It seems like they don't have any security at all. It's lucky for Safdar they didn't seem intent on actually hurting him.

On one side, they had to be pretty brainfucked to sell their old stock of zyklon B as humidifier cleaner.
On the other side. Might be one of the few time a company exec need clean underwear after apologies without it being related to his stock options value...

On the bright side, if they've still stock left, they can always sell it as insecticide.

But really, 100 people died. That sounds like gross negligence. Why is this man not in jail?

Ataur Safdar assumed the head of the korean branch in 2014. my guess is that the headquarter assigned the Indian british guy to it to clear up their mess. what a racist company. "let the paki do it. "

:shake:

and those korean will persistently insist the companys apology and reflection is not enough and keep blaming it, using trivial things as a pretext for it.

As usual you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. The current CEO is also Indian and has been with the company nearly 30 years.

seems like that humidifier spewing out germicide are only-in-korea product, which originally was developed by korean company and the british company has been selling the similar one only in korean market. and then... :keyboardcoffee:
