MARS...Let's Go!

Postby AssKissinger » Fri Sep 05, 2003 9:39 am

Question: When are we going to Mars? And when are we going back to the Moon?

Answer: We must accomplish at least four objectives before we are prepared for a Mars mission. We must successfully build and operate the planned International Space Station, gain working-level experience with other nations in space cooperation, develop an affordable mission scenario that can be accomplished in about one decade, and allow time for the world economy to improve substantially. With these goals in mind, NASA currently plans to operate the Space Station for at least the first decade of the next century, sending astronauts back to the Moon or on to Mars during the second decade of the new century. This time frame could change with technological breakthroughs.

the above is from NASA's website

Recently it's very trendy to bash America but nobody can take this from us. History will always remember 'first on the moon'.

Did yall see Mars last night? I say let's get to it and do it, let's go! I'd love to see China and Japan get into it as a race. Get the Muslims into it. See if they can do something besides knocking buildings over. Healthy competition. Get our minds off killing each other. Destination: Mars!

Maybe this is better
Lets Mars!

I cant wait till 2120 when we will have the technology. I wonder will NASA be around then!

OK so my quote wasn't so current. Well this link has today's date on it:

We currently have no time frame for sending humans to Mars. We are developing the technologies needed to support decision making in the early 21st century. We feel that a human Mars mission could be performed from six to ten years after a decision is made to go. ...NASA is currently exploring Mars robotically as is described in the Robotic Missions section of this web site. In addition, NASA is working to understand the technical and programmatic challenges to sending humans to Mars sometime in the next century. Although current studies have selected the early 21st century as a target to understand the challenges, NASA currently has no programs dedicated to human Mars missions.

Again it says 'next century'. You'd think they'd update their website more than once every five or ten years.

No your quote was quite correct dont be sorry. It will take 50 years for nasa to get its head out of its arse. You know the blue bird the fast plane in the world that was built 45 years ago(it still looks shit hot though)the shuttle mission was critizised becasue its 30 years old technology http://www.newscientist.com (read the nasa articles). The whole planet is going to shit everything is more expensive. every budjet is cut to maximize profit. I dont see any more progress in my lifetime unless something seriously shakes the shite out of the governments.

Humans are the weak link

Postby kurohinge1 » Fri Sep 05, 2003 6:47 pm

Lads, don't be too hard on the scientists. As I understand it, it's the humans that are the weak link. Machines have been going to Mars for quite some time and there are 4 more probes reportedly on their way, including a Japanese one.

The Earth is protected from harmful solar radiation by a magnetic field. Not so, out in space. Many astronauts in orbit have reported seeing bright flashes of light from time to time. This was revealed to be the effect of tiny particles passing right through their eyes/retina (and the rest of their body). Down here we're shielded from those particles by the planet's magnetic field. The northern lightsare a visable by-product of this.

On a long trip to Mars, your body would be constantly penetrated by these tiny particles, not that you'd feel anything. However, the effects would likely shorten your life and make you more prone to cancers, etc.

Human muscles, etc, also have a bad habit of turning to jelly if they are without gravity for long periods, although crustaceans are able to regrow limbs and regenerate muscle fibres at will.

Not to mention that whiny humans expect to be fed, toiletted and entertained on their long journey.

So, all we need to do is genetically engineer a generation of crustacean-human crossbreeds, able to hibernate for long periods, and which emit a protective magnetic field around themselves, and you can pack your bags!

That's just my 2 cents ...

Let's Scintillating!

"Scintillation" is points to the main weakness for human space travel.

Get this: My college housemate, Freeman-sensei, turned down repeated recruiting attempts from NASA to be an astronaut. Ohhhhhhhhh, I used beg-n-plead with him to trade places to get on the Shuttle. Image

He was only 21 years old but a Phd in Radiation Biology and his launch-weight less than 48kg (in other words NASA could launch two of him for every mongo-butt like me). He rejected their astronaut job because that "slow-death scintillation" of solar radiation and to this day NASA still can't recruit top radiation biologists.

Get Polluted!Image

FOCUS: Pollution fears mount as troubled Japan probe nears Mars
(Kyodo) - Nov 27, 8:28 am
Space experts are growing anxious that Japan may contaminate Mars when its beleaguered probe Nozomi reaches the Red Planet with a slight chance of collision on Dec. 14, years behind schedule and plagued by technical problems....
Regulations under the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), an international organization to further space science, stipulate the chances of planetary collision for vehicles not completely sterilized must be lower than 1% in the two decades after their launch.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has given the impression the effort is doomed, but says it will persevere with repair attempts. ...

It's been 40 years since we have seen any kind of major development in terms of man doing any kind of anything..

What about turning it into a golf driving range. They've already played on the moon, and think of the distance you'd get (even on Mars), with the reduced gravity.

Hey I think nippon is already on its way to Mars. I'm sure I read somewhere that this technologically advanced super nation is about to crash some out of control all made in nippon spacecraft (that is highly contaminated with Earth microbes) into the red planet.

Although I might be mistaken,,, maybe what I read was that another of their "superior quality" rockets had successfully placed another of their "superior quality" satellites on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

The Dynamic Dubwa has got more on his mind than catching villians.

extended lunar expedition, which sources said Thursday is what President Bush has in mind, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration would need to design and build a large mother ship, able to transport a number of crew members and a large inventory of supplies and equipment

For Mars, everything required by a moon voyage would have to be multiplied, perhaps many fold.

Why do you think he wants to colonize the moon and go to Mars? Too many people wanna smoke his ass. Anybody else read Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles where the ones who were smart enough to leave for Mars got to watch earth explode in a nuclear holocaust? From Mars it was just a little blue dot in the sky going red for a bit.

The 'smart' ones created the problems and rolled out. The stupid ones stayed out all night dancing under the moon chanting, "HEAD SEX and WELFARE CHECKS" so wigged-out on quaaludes they had no idea what was really going on. But hey, at least they're smart enough to be stupid enough to have a good time cause it's like Jim Morrison said, "I'm gonna get my kicks before this whole shithouse goes up in flames". Some dude's trying to slip an atomic bomb in the banana crates the super rich are setting up shop on the moon to do that gravity advantage thing Caustic was talking about.
