But really, I'd welcome anything that reduces the stack of remocons that clutters the house.

It is what is behind the wall that make things hang...

Incidentally, have you found Sexy House to be a fucking pain in this respect? Relatively few studs placed at irregular intervals because of the light steel cage construction? I got the impression mine is a fair bit older than yours - perhaps that improved?

Are they even 2x4's or larger?

I don't think they are now you mention it. Not a lot of them anyway. There's only about an inch behind the wall to aim a screw at when there is a stud. There are long horizontals in places but again they pretty thin as well as quite long. They are there just for the plasterboard to attach to so they'll take some weight but not all that much.

That sucks....
The kitchen remodel I did at the temple home, I had to add a bunch of support for the oven hood. Those things aren't light and the existing twigs behind it would have probably snapped if I had tried to mount it as is.

The studs in my house are 1 by 1 inch square hollow pipes made from steel of around 1mm thick. Most of them are vertical, but occasionally I find horizontal ones.
I would feel comfortable to hang a TV from them (though it depends on the size of the TV).

Are they steel? Away from the corners I thought most of mine were wood. I've certainly used woodscrews to hang a kitchen cabinet. And to secure a display cabinet. Hmm. Mine is about 1989. Perhaps that's why.
Anyway, how do you fix? Drill and then self tappers? Do they hold as well as woodscrews?

Yep, I drill a small hole and use self-tapping wood screws.
I have a pic of the studs somewhere, but it may be hard to find, so I will go up to the attic to take another one when the weather is less hot.

Thank you, that's useful. One of those things that had never occurred to me and would have caused quite a bit of puzzling and faff. So far, I have always been able to find a wooden stud or been able to use plasterboard anchors because the load isn't that high. At least the plasterboard is decent quality and 10mm thick.
I think in my place the internal walls are all wooden studs but not that hefty. Good enough for things like mirrors and pictures but bookshelves maybe not. External walls seem to have a bit of a mix. Larger wood around doors and windows. Steel near the corners and thinner wood in between at not very regular intervals cos they aren't really structural. And of course there are some horizontals to stiffen large areas of plasterboard/exterior wall where there aren't many studs.
That's the thing with Sexy. On the plus side the quality of the materials and design is good, excellent by local standards. But, everything is a bit non standard and difficult to work with unless you are privy to Sexy's secrets and special custom supplies.

I found them quite helpful when I needed some of those supplies, or even just advice on my home. And I didn't even buy my home new from them.

Oh yes, Me too. Extremely helpful. But they charge like wounded bulls.
