Thunder and lightning, very very frightening - at least acccording to wifey. Not so much a typhoon, more a series of tropical storms.

Had a friend visiting a few years back. He speaks no Japanese and no English, not even French; German only :) And he surprised me by almost effortlessly traveling to several places in Japan all on his own, getting food, booze and shelter without ever needing the keitai that we lent him to call me just in case.

So the Japanese can do this, if they really want :)

It is classified as a super typhoon and could get nasty. The highest level warnings have been issued (as in, do whatever you can to preserve life and limb).

i do guess that almost all of the protesters against us mil bases there already fled to mainland japan as quickly as lighting because they are NOT the natives. furthermore, some of them are not even japanese.

well, let me send something like a gift for real okinawa natives.

Thanks all. Chaba veered west at the last minute, so friends on Zamami and Kume Islands are getting it worse.

Friends on Zamami are good friends to have.

I took the last ferry off there a few years ago: it was that or five days of mah jongg while the winds blew.

They predict that it'll speed up in a few days, but I don't see that happening.

I happened to be in the newsroom of a Japanese TV station earlier this week and as I was leaving saw similar footage on one of the TV screens. I asked one of the two female staffers watching intently "is that Japan?" and she answered "no, South Korea..." to which I replied "oh, good!" and then continued on my way as both heads turned to swivel at me.

Just a bit chilly and made for a more exciting drive to the office. So many illegally parked white cars with no lights or hazards on.

How bad is the wind these days ?

I was overtaken...
By the beacon on the car's roof... ending up dandling on top of my windshield thanks to the stainless steel safety wire...

Weather awesomly surrealist today...

Warm with brutal rain shower flooding the streets... and the canard at the bottom of my front bumper finally do their job of deviating the splash at 90° left and right when fording instead of having everything flooding back on my windshield...
