The original Weeb, 1947 - 2016

Postby Yokohammer » Tue Jan 19, 2016 11:58 am

As an erstwhile aspiring musician who did the music school thing (Berklee) in the 70s, this goes a little deeper than just celebrity gawking for me. A little too close for comfort, you might say.

(Better to be aspiring than expiring, I guess.)

With the amount of substance abuse a lot of these guys did making it to sixty something or seventy is a pretty good run.

That's pretty much the way I see it too. I have come into passing contact with a few of the finest in my time, and back in the 70s and even into the 80s many were accompanied by copious quantities of "stuff." Never got into it myself, but saw it around a lot. Now that we know the true price of that lifestyle you don't see it as much, but it was just daily routine for those guys back in the day. No human body can take that much abuse without lasting effects. I think that's what we're seeing now. But as you point out, the fact that some of them have lasted this long is surprising.

Yeah I've got a cousin who partied very hard in the late 60's and 70's. He's about 68 now and doctors say that the many health problems he's having are probably due to all the drugs and alcohol even though he hasn't touched anything in decades.

OOOK!!! Desperado, Already Gone!!!!!!!!

Like SJ and YokoH said, those things that were pleasing him, they hurt him somehow.

I wonder if what you imbibe has much influence. Snorting whiskey and drinking cocaine just seems like a bad idea to me, but I am naturally a weed and beer type. And Root Beer.
