LONDON (Reuters) - The typical Internet user -- far from being a geek -- shuns television and actively socialises with friends, a study on surfing habits says.

That's interesting, because I read that young males in Australia and the US, and I assume elsewhere, are dropping out of TV viewing in a big way. New forms of intertainment are responsible.

There are better forms of intertainment, such as games, DVDs, and the internet if you just want to do something at home. TV has less programs these days for males-I think it has become more female oriented. As the market share of the TV audience becomes more female, the programmers and producers make more female oriented shows, so it is a vicious circle.

Except the circle is spiraling 'upwards' for males ala games. :hehe:  Witness 'Doom 3' screenshot:

Actually, I read somewhere that the internet is responsible for increases in most areas of crime. Maybe we're criminals? 8O

I easily spend 2 hours a day on the net...with plans to increase it. I worked out that as of the beginning of this year, I have more friends from the net then I do in my entire area of residence (btw, that sounds worse then it actualy is).

Hey, if I could eat, breath, drink, work and sleep off the net, then I probably would. But the above just force me away from the screen for most of the day. :D

The same can be said for gamers. These days girls (yes girls) like gaming too. When I started gaimng with Defender and Elite and WEF (that's Way of the Exploding Fist), gaming was a boys domain.

If you ask a person now if they can use MS Access, most office workers will say "of course". Not so many years ago you were a computer expert if you could use this package. Actually the reality is not "see I aint a geek" but actually "see, we're all geeks now".
