Pretty sure them's the magic words if you wanna wear the uniform.

I seriously doubt he really said that....with all the base shootings and such, they'd be insane to recruit him.

Maybe you've been living under a rock, but...

Well, not only that, but the whole premise of the military is to take impressionable youths and turn them into unthinking, dispassionate killing machines. Psychopaths, while at times a little difficult to keep under control, perform admirably once unleashed. This is especially so during a period of active campaigns, and since the US military has had some active operations going on the last 15 or so years, these kind of guys are useful.

Mike - I understand the bar keeps going lower but recruiting a pot dealer isn't quite the same as some kid that "wants to kill people." That's some scary shit.

Wags - Useful....in the way a forest fire is useful for clearing a few dead trees. May get the job done but keeping control and what comes along with it are more dangerous than the target.

Matsuki, maybe start reading about WWII, Vietnam, whatever, something about war. It turns out a lot of farm boys and other young dumb recruits most definitely do not want to kill people, even when facing enemy fire...a guy who does is the stuff of recruiters' & drill sergeants' wet dreams.

There is a documentary series called "The World at War". Absolutely fascinating, they have interviews with one of Hitler's secretaries, his personal bodyguard, a Japanese guy who was at the signing of the peace treaty with the USA, all kinds of folk who experienced WW2 up close.

One Brit soldier says some people just like to destroy things.

Ex-U.S. base worker denies intent to kill Okinawa woman
A former U.S. civilian base worker accused of raping and killing a 20-year-old woman in Okinawa in April last year denied intent to murder on Thursday at the opening of his lay judge trial.

Kenneth Franklin Shinzato, 33, however, admitted at the Naha District Court to the charges of rape resulting in death and abandoning the victim's body.

According to the indictment, Shinzato assaulted the woman for the purpose of raping her on a road in Uruma in central Okinawa around 10 p.m. on April 28 last year. After hitting her on the head with a bar, he stabbed her in the neck with a knife so she would not resist, murdering her as a result.

The murder case has sparked public anger and strengthened anti-U.S. base sentiment in Okinawa, which hosts the bulk of U.S. military facilities in Japan and has seen a spate of crimes committed by American troops or military-linked personnel.

The skeletal remains of the woman, who was taking a walk at the time of the crime, were found on May 19 last year in a wooded area in the village of Onna, north of Uruma, based on Shinzato's statement.

He was working at an internet company within the premises of the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa at the time of the incident after serving as a U.S. Marine from 2007 to 2014, according to his lawyers and the U.S. Defense Department.

In the hearing, Shinzato said he planned to let the woman go after raping her, denying any murderous intent.

His defense counsel said, "He did not stab her during the assault. He wrung her neck but did not try to kill her and there is a possibility that the woman died as a result of falling and hitting her head on the ground."

Meanwhile, prosecutors claimed Shinzato had intent to murder her, referring to multiple stabbing of the victim's neck. They also said it was a premeditated crime as he prepared a suitcase to transport the body and changed his clothes at a hotel after the incident.

As Shinzato barely speaks Japanese, the trial was held through an interpreter.

During his service as a Marine, Shinzato engaged in material procurement and instructed shooting. He also received an award for his contribution to the war against terrorism.

He had a family in Okinawa at the time of the incident but got divorced afterward.

Under the lay judge system, local citizens will hear the case alongside professional judges.

Shinzato had requested his trial be held outside Okinawa, saying it was unlikely a fair lay judge trial could be held there during the strong anti-U.S. base sentiment. But the Supreme Court rejected the request in August last year.

A ruling will be handed down Dec. 1.

The district court, presided over by Judge Toshihiro Shibata, is expected to hear from the accused on Friday. The victim's father, who attended the first hearing, is also scheduled to state his views in the trial.

The incident reignited talks to review the Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement, which has been criticized by locals who see it as overly protective of U.S. service members and civilian base workers if they are implicated in crimes.

In January, Tokyo and Washington signed a pact to effectively remove legal protection over some U.S. military base workers, hoping the move will deter base-linked crimes in Okinawa.

In Okinawa, a total of 576 heinous crimes, including murders, robberies and rapes, have been committed by U.S. military-related personnel between May 1972, when the prefecture reverted to Japanese control following postwar U.S. occupation, and last December, according to data from the prefectural government and local police.

Following the gang rape of a 12-year-old schoolgirl by three U.S. servicemen in 1995, a massive rally -- which organizers estimated was attended by 85,000 -- was held to call for the removal of the U.S. military base from Okinawa.

A series of accidents involving U.S. military aircraft have also fueled anti-U.S. base sentiment on the island, with such incidents totaling 709 during the same period.

Nearly 500 people lined up in the morning to get a ticket to observe the high-profile trial.

"I came here to keep the defendant's figure and voice in my heart so I would never forget the case," said Makoto Yasu, 52, from the town of Yonabaru, Okinawa.

in principle its absolutely impossible to reduce this kind of heinous crimes to zero among any kind categories of people. people should judge the maliciousness by whether or not it falls withing a certain %(in this case the average crime rate of japanese nationals). 2 or 3 heinous crimes happen and then "all of other gaijins suck and gaijin go home! ". its invalid. sorry. its hasty generalizaiton or the fallacy of composition(yea this is a logical fallacy to be often made here and there.).the demand of the protesters side is absolutely unrealizable in the real world.
and its the very same with the "sincerity" or "genuineness" which koreans have demanded over the controversial issues towards japan. "a few j- politicians objected to/complained about the apology and then its not sincere/genuine and then its disabled as an apology and then do it again!!! " but but but not a few naive people end up naively supporting the illogical demands, unfortunately.
:shakeh:
learning how to logically grasp things is so important as fuck.

Life term sought for ex-U.S. base worker over murder of Okinawa woman
Prosecutors on Friday demanded life imprisonment for a former U.S. civilian base worker charged with raping and killing a 20-year-old woman in Okinawa in April last year.

Claiming Kenneth Franklin Shinzato, 33, committed "extremely heinous and selfish crimes," the prosecutors sought the life term, while the defendant denied intent to murder the victim. The Naha District Court will hand down a ruling on Dec. 1.

The case sparked public anger and strengthened anti-U.S. base sentiment in Okinawa, which hosts the bulk of U.S. military facilities and has seen a series of crimes committed by U.S. servicemen or military-linked personnel.

According to the indictment, Shinzato attacked the woman for the purpose of raping her on a road in Uruma in central Okinawa around 10 p.m. on April 28, 2016. He stabbed her in the neck with a knife and struck her on the head with a bar so she would not resist, killing her as a result.

The remains of the woman, who was taking a walk at the time of the crime, were found on May 19 of that year in a wooded area in the village of Onna, north of Uruma. They were found based on information in Shinzato's statement. The accused has admitted to the charges of rape resulting in death and abandoning the victim's body.

In their closing arguments, the prosecutors maintained Shinzato "stabbed the victim in the neck with a knife three to four times and struck her with a bar on the back of her head five to 10 times, therefore he had intent to kill the victim."

They also said Shinzato committed "grave" crimes as he "assaulted an innocent woman like a phantom killer and took her future."

"No sincere apologies have been offered to the victim's family and he has shown no remorse," the prosecutors said, adding he had premeditated the crimes by preparing a knife and a suitcase to transport her body beforehand.

They said they had thought about seeking the death sentence but "reluctantly gave up the idea in light of striking a balance (of punishment) with other similar criminal cases."

The accused said in his last statement during the trial, "I did not intend to cause such a result." The defense counsel also requested that the court "forget about (local residents') frustration with U.S. bases" when deciding on the ruling.

Shinzato's defense counsel repeated his denial of murderous intent and said there is a possibility that the woman died as a result of falling and hitting her head on the ground...

I really hate how they use this guy to bash the bases in Okinawa - dude was married to a Japanese woman and had a spouse visa, so it wasn't like a killer was imported this time.

But haters gotta hate.

Abe could try and get the US bases out, which would give him free reign to go after North Korea, but any rational person knows the Hatsune Miku (or whatever the SDF is into now) army wouldn't win.

“I’m not a bad person, and I didn’t mean for any of this to happen,” Gadson said, sheepishly, while briefly facing the stunned audience.

Not much of a Hail Mary...between this and the lack of some sort of apology to the victims family (this would be one of the first things suggested by an J-attorney, yeah?), dude is probably more mental than we know. Add to that this kind of predatory behavior and regardless of intent, the world is probably better off with him locked up.

In an awkward moment, Gadson was asked to repeat his statement several times for the court translator as the final proceedings of his three-day murder trial concluded.

Pretty inexcusable...that's primary school level English.....

Gadson’s attorneys countered that he had meant only to incapacitate her by choking her, that he had not stabbed her during the initial assault, and if he had, investigators would have found more blood. They said he poked her with a knife, later to make sure she was dead before dumping the body.

Sounds like some J-prosecutor bullshit. Exculpatory evidence being withheld to make their case stronger?

“I’m not asking for the court to lighten the defendant’s sentence,” he said. “I won’t complain if the sentence is the same as what is given to a Japanese person.”

The attorneys here are more like legal proceeding translators for their clients than providing any actual defense. Go through the motions, wait for results.

Ex-U.S. base worker gets life in prison for murder of Okinawa woman
A Japanese court sentenced a former U.S. base worker to life in prison on Friday for the rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman in Okinawa in April last year.

And Kenneth is gonna properly rot, just not nearly as fast as his victim (may she rest in peace).

A High court upholds life term handed to former U.S. base worker in Okinawa over woman’s 2016 murder
high court Thursday upheld a lower court’s ruling that sentenced a former U.S. military base worker to life in prison for the 2016 rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman in Okinawa.

The Naha branch of the Fukuoka High Court dismissed the appeal of 34-year-old Kenneth Franklin Shinzato, who admitted to the charges of rape resulting in death and abandoning the victim’s body.

The defense counsel claimed he had no intent to kill and denied the murder charge.

According to the ruling, Shinzato attacked the woman on a road in Uruma, in central Okinawa, for the purpose of raping her on the night of April 28, 2016. He stabbed her in the neck with a knife and struck her on the head with a bar so she would not resist, resulting in her death.

The Naha District Court handed down the life sentence last December in line with prosecutors’ demands.

In July, the Japanese and U.S. governments paid condolence money to the family of the woman instead of Shinzato, who said he lacked the means to pay, after the family sought compensation from Washington in March under the Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement.

The United States has said the payment was made on a “voluntary and humanitarian” basis because the man was not an employee of the U.S. armed forces as defined by the agreement, according to the Defense Ministry in Tokyo.

Shinzato was a civilian working for an internet company on the Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture at the time of the crime, after serving as a U.S. Marine, according to his lawyer and the U.S. Defense Department.

Ex-U.S. Marine ‘to accept prison term’
A former U.S. Marine is set to accept an indefinite prison term for a high-profile murder case in Okinawa Prefecture in 2016 that triggered fierce protests by people in the prefecture, which hosts the bulk of U.S. bases in the country, informed sources said Thursday.

Kenneth Shinzato, 34, will refrain from appealing the case to the Supreme Court, for which the deadline is Thursday, the sources said.

According to the ruling, issued by the Naha District Court last December and upheld by the Naha branch of the Fukuoka High Court last month, the murder occurred after Shinzato tried to sexually assault the female victim, 20, on a road in the city of Uruma on the night of April 28, 2016.

Shinzato, who was a civilian U.S. base worker at the time, hit the woman on the head with a stick and stabbed her several times around her neck, killing her. He later abandoned her body in a wooded area in the village of Onna.

Local police discovered her body on May 19 that year and arrested Shinzato on the same day.

Crime in Japan seems to be relatively low compared to the rest of the world...as for the Military thing and 'Gaijin' you have Carlos Ghosn types on the run, JohnnySomali idiots making a fool of themselves on the internets and National Tv, an ex-JMSDF built a home made gun and killed the Former Prime Minister of Japan, the Japanese media seems to have blamed the South Korean Unification Church for the whole event and not the Japanese killer. In news media you have gaijin Gangsters, a South Korean gangster, a Russian gangster, a Chinese exchange student attacked his co-workers and some weird jealous thing Chen Shifeng and boyfriends ex-girlfriends, Military guys or Ex-Military Rapes or Fights and Murders, Kurds and Turks and Iranians and Arabs attacking and stabbing each other near embassy in Japan, African American Rapper Concert men Richard Hinds murdering in Shinjuku, Peruvian sex offender Jose Manuel Torres Yake murdering in Hiroshima.
