Nagoya's Mayor Kawamura is totally right in saying:
"We are excluding people with disabilities under the name of being faithful to historical facts."

The historical wooden castle reconstruction must also exclude flush toilets, running water, electricity/lighting, gift shops, fire/earthquake measures, glass windows, train/bus/taxi/modern-paved-road access, evil alien tourists, and especially they must BAN ALL FCUCKING JAPANESE COMMONERS.

Nagoya castle really is a cheap copy rather than a nice replica. This overreaction won't help.

OTOH, some of the gardens surrounding it are really nice. Maybe they could raze the castle and plant more trees? (or to be more Japanese, turn it into a parking lot)

Japanese 'intellect' at work again - you can't fix stupid.

By definition a 'national treasure' is that - it's the original. You can renovate it but in Japan, 'national treasures' are just fake re-construction in a no. of cases. And who the fuck wants to go to Nagoya to see a modern re-construction of a castle?

Answering my own question - the kind of Japanese who want to kick foreign visitors outta Tokyo 'because it's too crowded' and send them off to the Tohoku region to spend their hard earned money on a great vacuum pit of boredom,'attractions' like yet more concrete castle that are not the originals, sour locals who have social problems at the best of times and are simply not qualified for the 21st century, more of the same ol shops, conbinis, etc with a few temples and shrines thrown in.

And they actually believe most of us are stupid enough to spend our money there? At least the annoying gaijin tourists understand that Tokyo and other real cities are where it's at plus real big country like Hokkaido, etc.

So many in Japan, take your pick of concrete and make the Jps froth with jealousy when you tell them about original architectural treasures in the UK, Europe and even the beautiful, sweeping colonial era houses in Oz.
