May he rest in peace, and meet his 69 virgins.

What was his age?

One of my regrets in life is that I never got to meet him in person. A number of potential meetups just didn’t come together, and I was hoping some day to correct this. Sigh. Seemed like a great guy and was one of the main reasons this forum was a blast to hang out in. He’ll be missed.

RIP.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at one of the FG meetups, must have been around 2013.

Someone posted 'class of 1960" on his FB so that would put him at 77ish?? I never asked but he probably would have had a joke for that.

I met him at FG gatherings and then just hung out a few times with him at the 'muricankurabu. Sincerely happy to have known such a great (and hilarious) guy.

Yep, that sounds right.
Ten years ago, I had drinks with him less than one month after he had a heart by-pass operation. : I asked him if it was wise and he quipped, "Why not, I'm not even 70?" :drunk:

Greji very generously reached out to me and cared enough to make sure things were going OK for me during a certain episode back when gaijin gulags were a popular topic. I am very grateful for that act towards me, an internet stranger.

He truly lived in interesting times and saw a lot of interesting events. I feel that he knew how to enjoy living his life, while creating his own pathway through it. You can't ask for more than that.

Greji tried to groom me to take over his old job. But then he saw what a slob I was and nothing eventuated from it! I was always grateful, though.
He called me, I think by accident, early this year and mentioned he had just been hospitalized again.
He was, indeed, a wonderful man. And extremely dapper. Am sure he will be making Heaven a better place. joking around with GuyJean and Cyka and others.

Really sad to here about it. I only talked to him once about a decade ago when I was up in Tokyo. Although he had to need to, he invited me out to go drinking with him somewhere, but I had to be functional the next day. He was a very generous soul.

Oh shit, oh no :( .............thanks Taro and Samurai Jerk and everybody for this thread. What can I say.............I never had any photos of Greji to go by but got the impression he was one of the old uns who had seen and done so much more than younger generation Japan dwellers.

So the grand man was in his 70s, wish he was still around and could've made it more good years. Greji treated everyone fairly, never jumped into new or younger posters like me, always replied to questions directed at him, had a great sense of humour and made the board fun while giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. Thank you for the information on him - it's good to know the person behind the handle. Damn, this signifies the passing of a generation.

Hang in there man, I know the wholistic bullshit about attitude blah blah blah doesn't hold much water when it's invasive evil cancer but there's a ton of info out there about possible ways to mitigate effects and hopefully help generate some positive response.

Everyone is different, there have been people who've managed to live longer than expected after cancer hit and they had treatment. I'm not recommending quacks but there are conventional specialists out there who have written books and net articles on these topics. Wishing you the best man.

Always late to the party, but this grieves me. As a new guy I was honored when he responded to one of comments. Only once. But that's when I felt like I was one of team.
