Knife-wielding professor fired from the international department of Waseda University

During the 2018 and 2019 academic years, the professor, a part-time instructor in his 60s who taught in the department’s School of International Liberal Studies, was found to have engaged in a continuing pattern of abusive and threatening conduct towards his pupils.
Among the professor’s verbal attacks was telling students “You were raised poorly,” which is in odd contrast to his penchant for kicking students’ bags and other belongings when he got upset. He would also tell students he was displeased with “You should quit school right away,” but such poor manners are small potatoes compared to the occasions in which he would simply command students “Die!” And while such a threat might not ordinarily be so intimidating coming from a senior citizen, the professor also had a habit of whipping out a pocket knife and brandishing it during lessons when he was instructing students on proper pronunciation.

In all my time here, I've never been able to wrap my brain around how quickly, casually, and often I've seen the locals telling people to die. Sometimes it comes across like an angsty incel spouting "I wish you were dead!" but other times is seems like the person is actually conveying the threat of murder. Either way, it's suuuuuper played out. For once I'd like to hear someone say something like "go feed a rolling shinkansen!"

We had a teacher at my public high school who was quite excitable, and one of the worse students figured out how to get under his skin. The teacher pulled a knife on him and that was the last we heard of the teacher for a while. Another social studies teacher used a grenade as a prop for some reason. While not a live grenade, it did have a fuse which apparently went off one day and caused a bang and an uproar, but no injuries.
