One tweet away back in March. And since then vast amounts of blame heaped on China, Not the CCP or CPC or The Chinese Regime, just China. Is it any wonder that the less cognitively gifted citizens take it upon themselves to attack China in the only way they know how? And that does rather explain the attack on the Japanese pianist and the other attacks on Asian people. Or do you deny they are happening?

Do you think things will be better if the police departments are defunded?

Where did that come from? Seriously, you have a lot of difficulty staying on topic. Let's just leave it there and agree to differ. You continue with your research and I'll keep reading and listening to what I view as professional and ethical media of both the left and right.

Like condemning white supremists, once he makes his stance clear, it serves no purpose to put the message on repeat. Yes, Trump is terrible with nuancing between the CCP, Chinese nationals, Chinese Americans, and Asian Americans. He keeps referring to the CCP a "chai-nah" and yes, I wish he would actually say the CCP. Trump is embarrassing and sounds as bad as my local boss when he fumbles up statements with all the confidence in the world. No doubt these attacks are happening but I fail to see how Trump is the deciding factor for these assholes acting out.

You're asserting Trump is somehow to blame for the attacks....Biden's answer to the current situation is to defund the police and ask police to shoot people in the foot.

I do look at some of the stuff you recommend. I even joined a QAnon group on Facebook for a while just to see what they were saying. And a flat earth group just to see how the deception works and is monetised. I also follow a famous UK right wing blog and comments for the same reason. However, I have seen very little that encourages me to take the vast majority of it very seriously. Perhaps that is a matter of training - if I ever submitted a piece of work like these guys do without showing any evidence or support for my simplistic and biased opinions, it would have been thrown straight back at me. The way I learned it, you should ask some questions whenever you deal with a text.

1. Who created this?
2. Why did s/he create it?/Who does s/he work for?
3. How partial is the organisation and/or the person? Do they have a special, financial or commercial interest ?
3. What qualifications or knowledge does this person have in relation to the topic?
4. What evidence can they provide?
5. Can their statements and evidence be checked?
6. Is the organisation they work for accountable?
7. Is the person who wrote this accountable if it turns out to be false? Do they have a position, career or reputation to at stake?

I recognise that you and many others now take a view that expert and specialist reporting/explanation is no better than anyone else's and in fact is often dishonest because they are members of the professional elite who are part of a huge conspiracy against the laity. I beg to differ and I will continue to differ. I am astonished that people believe in things like Pizzagate and it is that non-critical, eager to believe approach to unconventional and unaccountable reporting that causes it.

I note that recently many right wing commentators/news generators in the US and UK are convinced that they know far more about a pandemic, virology and controlling infection than people who have spent their entire life studying it.

Are you seriously equating the stuff matsuki sometimes suggests as equivalent to a flat earth group and qanon?

So you'll hold anyone who holds an opinion that differs from yours to a very high standard, while all the while assuming that those in your camp are nothing but the salt of the earth? You've never once used your list to examine the contents of a left-leaning piece. Those of the so-called professional expert class are just as corruptible as anyone. Particularly those in academia and government, where being wrong repeatedly over long periods of time bears no consequences whatsoever.

I note that recently many right wing commentators/news generators in the US and UK are convinced that they know far more about a pandemic, virology and controlling infection than people who have spent their entire life studying it.

The vast majority of those who have practiced medicine and been involved in health research and public health have been shut out of the debate. MSM & SNS have coordinated and censored to an extraordinary degree. But the academics and government admins such as Fauci and Ferguson are very much at home.

One problem is that everyone has to make a living out of what they do; even scientists don't want to scrap their career on a whim. And they can and will be influenced by politics.

Example: At the beginning of the pandemic many governments and even the WHO said that masks are of not much help. That has turned 180° as soon as the shortage of masks was over.

Sometimes even the top scientists have to lie at the behest of politicians in the "national interest" (don't create panic). Let the people panic over toilet paper instead...

It is one of the problems with the credibility of sources of any kind. We will just never know the whole truth and fifty years from now, we won't care.

Yes, you are right of course. Experts are not perfect, have to compromise to operate in an imperfect world like anyone else, sometimes can't agree among each other and sometimes have to change their minds. However, this idea that some random person on the internet with the prime objective of generating clicks for revenue is more likely to be right about something like how best to control a pandemic is an enormous leap of faith. To say the least.

Agree! And, usually, if scientists don't agree with one another, then that often leads to more scientific work to be done and results in better science; a good thing. That's what peer reviews etc. are for - in a perfect world that is. Unfortunately, our world seems to become less and less perfect. Even those who believe in a flat earth are not taken seriously any more, which is so batshit crazy; I am from al alpine country and I know that the alps are fake, it's just flat land; prairies. But no, they talk about "elevation" haha; fools!

Panic... The concept shat out when some wanker need to feel smarter than the mass without having anything to show for it. How many papers will we need to debunk the concept ? Panic over the lack of masks ? Those masks that people now refuse to wear because... fuck it... the end...
Toilet paper... hoarding is not panic... preparation is not panic, anticipation is not panic. When was the last time you saw real panic outside of trading on secondary market ? WTC... no, Bataclan... no, Fukushima... no, want me to go on ? Lack of reaction have killed more than panic in forever (a subfield of the normalcy bias, the stuff that get you dead in the first days of any zombie apocalypse)
Peer review... with scandal like the Lancet on chloroquine, that ship has sailed and sunk. Like orange man would say “buh bye !!!” Now just need to get every baseline genius to understand that double blind testing is a fraud and we might be able to go back to research instead of white coat prostitution...

I understand, where you're coming from. But then, for now the spurious ways of modern science with their rigged test results, badly calibrated lab machinery, corrupt peer reviews, double deaf double blind tests, fraudulent publication bias etc. still seem to be the least self-destructing ways to find knowlege that we are capablee of. Not all of the questions are applicable to what we find online and many cannot be answered regarding MSM reporting nowadays. I agree that information needs to be shown to be factual with as much supporting evidence as possible but I think the flow of information is too vast and fast for the MSM to cover most issue with real depth and satisfy your questions.

While I do agree the bias in "expert and specialist reporting/explanation" is detrimental to the truth of the matter, my take is more or less that western media simply isn't interested in reporting on some of the CCP/China issues and when they do, they are often just parroting the prepared propaganda of the CCP they're given without any real knowledge of what they are reporting. As I pointed out, the CCP arrests/kicks out foreign journalists that don't tow their line. Think about how many times you've seen western media "reporting" on Japan with all kinds of mistakes and false info. I'm more concerned at the lack of coverage than the bias of coverage, though both are problems that need addressing.

Good post, Wage. 'Those who can make you believe in absurdities.....' However I have little respect or time for people who, 'preach the truth', yet lack any empathy for the sufferings of people, outside of their direct group. He (Sacha) is always bitching about antisemitism, yet why doesn't he do one or more of his comedy sketches about, Hussein, a West Bank resident who has lived longer under an apartheid system, than any black South African ever did?

You make a good point. He does address islamophobia but he doesn't mention what the Palestinians are still suffering or Zionism more generally. And he really should. Still, no-one's perfect and he's on the money regarding the discussion of alternative facts/news sources.

Obviously he's targeting right wing politicians and the more extreme examples of far right people which make easy targets but he's fucking hilarious and it's comedy. Getting upset over it is pointless. Even Kazakhstan is finally leaning into Borat with their new tourism campaign "Very Nice." I would have gone with "wahwahweewah" but it's a start.

In the new movie he has a small bakery write "Jews will not replace us! ;) " on a cake for him. The staff looks a bit shocked but she just does as he asks. Seemed like he was reaching too far with that one as I'm pretty sure the staff (owner?) was just interested in making the sale and would have wrote anything. What comes after with the Christian doctor had me on the floor but once again, while hilarious, wasn't really making much of a statement against these people's morals as much as setting them up for awkward comedy. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it all and think people who are upset by it are waaaay too uptight. I do, however, think something equally similar could be done with the extreme left.

You should go somewhere else for your school homework Osaka-ben. Also this aint really the place for a survey, want to do a survey just print the stuff out and ask people in person in public. This is mostly a shoot the breeze gaijin hangout, messing around, politics, entertainment forum.

If you want to try the online survey route maybe try one of Jpn social medias or one of those Japanese Chans
