Taro participated in the discussion thread about #1, so he quite definitely was checking. I have no evidence of his checking on #2, but he certainly had access to my notes about the deletion. Years ago when things were busy, GG and Yanpa were quite active in the moderator discussion groups.
... In reality my lack of moderating activity is mainly due to Taro being a total gentleman, logging in far more frequently than I do, and cleaning up all the messes before I even notice.

Aside from killing spam, I barely moderate anything. Racist crap gets past me: Really terrible stuff I move into "Beyond Fucked." The only picture I ever banned was a dead cat.
