Every school textbook and atlas in America calls it the Japan Sea. Long, lo-o-o-o-ong ago I taught a high school history and I bet that 90% of my fellow teachers never even heard of the East Sea.

It turns out that U.S. Indo-Pacific Command spokesman Captain Mike Kafka is married to a Korean and somehow he used the wrong term because her influence (no sane American uses "East Sea" except hardcore Korean immigrants). The spokesman is only a Captain so he can be forgiven for being stupid.

There is the East China Sea, though, just south of the Japan Sea, off Kyushu. It happens all the time that people get lost in navigation. And the water and the fishes are all the same, no matter how humans of all creatures call it.
