Yep, headlines like "bear attacks people", but IMO the opposite is much more likely. By the footage that goes around I reckon that the bear was spooked and just looking for a way back out into the wild. And got killed for it; booo.

Unarmed, I've gone toe-to-paw with black bears on a daily basis as a cook at a summer camp doing a runs to the garbage dump.
No big deal...the Law of the Jungle says that since I am taller and heavier than most black bears, they have to back off.

As far as brown bears (Grizzly bears) go, I have been chased on my 250cc dirt bike by two teenage Grizzly bears at 30mph/48kph on a rough game trail. The Grizzlies seemed to think that a Kawasaki Green Streak and me equalled "food"
