5-10 minutes to fold a shirt....amazing, they've managed to replicate that "catch copy" Japanese uselessness in this. Neat idea, shit execution.

That thing is bigger than my wardrobe. How would that ever fit in a Japanese 1K? And the only way, I can put all my shirts in their drawer, is making ranger rolls or else there is not enough space. Works just as well with jeans and other stuff.

And it's done in a minute, once you get the hang of it.

Hyundai might buy evil robot dog company Boston Dynamics for $1 billion

Hyundai is in talks to buy Boston Dynamics from SoftBank, as Bloomberg reports
...
Proposed terms of the deal would give the South Korean automaker control of the robotics company in a transaction valued at as much as $1 billion
At times, Boston Dynamics has functioned more like a research organization than a business, churning out machines that are technologically advanced and whimsical but unprofitable. That includes Spot, a maneuverable dog-like robot. Videos of its creations regularly rack up millions of views on YouTube; however, the company has said it is not currently generating profits.
By contrast, Hyundai makes highly practical industrial robots intended for factory use.

Makes it sound like a perfect fit within Japan Inc.

Most of the AGV manufacturers I'm working with are making automated forklifts and pallet movers. Not so sure how practical the BD robots will be for manufacturing/warehouse work for Hyundai.

...and despite Toyoda's shit take and overconfidence with we Japanese robotic vehicle manufacturing, I think Tesla's approach to mega casting vehicles in larger pieces makes soo much more sense than over complicated, large assembly lines with hundreds of expensive robots welding hundreds of parts to get the same result. Of course they may be butthurt that they don't have the SpaceX engineered metal that makes this casting possible

...but I do think BD robots are great for security/rescue/etc. I fully expect to see the 'merican droid army when China starts WWIII

SoftBank sells controlling stake in Boston Dynamics to Hyundai
japantoday.com | 2020 Dec 12
SoftBank Group will sell an 80 percent stake in robotics firm Boston Dynamics to Hyundai, the trio said Friday, in a deal that values the U.S. company at $1.1 billion.
Boston Dynamics has drawn huge attention with viral videos of its humanoid and dog-like robots, whose uncanny movements and impressive tricks have helped stoke fears that androids could one day become a threat to humans.
The engineering firm was founded in 1992 and bought in 2013 by Google, which sold the company on to SoftBank three years ago.
The Japanese conglomerate will keep a 20 percent stake through one of its affiliates and will work with South Korea's Hyundai to "propel development and commercialisation of advanced robots", the companies said.

I was starting to wonder how much Tesla would have gained from buying Boston Dynamics besides the engineers themselves....with Hyundai and Softbank retaining a 20% stake, my feeling is it will continue to be underutilized and fail to live up to it's potential for useful robots.

No doubt there is a lot of potential scary stuff with AI but I'm not so sure I agree there is motivation for AI to want to do any of it.

His non-suicide death was ruled a suicide by the Sacramento pedophile masonic County coroner's office.
