Asshole sellers online? Suggestions?

Postby matsuki » Thu Jul 06, 2023 6:04 pm

So I recently bought a used slot machine on mercari, was shipped chakubarai, and was this whole big hassle to get it. When I went to unbox it, there were a few ants on the outside of the box. The machine inside was wrapped in plastic, ants were only on the outside, so seemed to be all good. Unfortunately, after 3 flights of stairs and opening up the machine, all was not so good after all. The main board was a full on ant farm, complete with eggs, queen, etc.

Still shot doesn't really convey the thousand of very very tiny ants but take my word for it, it was an armada that flowed out like a tsunami when the door was open. I did my best with the vacuums and ended up carefully drilling some holes into the plastic board covers to snake a straw in and suck as many ants/eggs up as possible.

So I can't send pics on the platform but I explained what happened to the seller and guy claims it was impossible as the machine was "thoroughly inspected" before shipping. There is no way you could miss the mass of eggs on the bottom and they take 3-4 weeks to hatch so in short, the guy is full of it. Then he tells me "well, it's used so...sorry, no claims, no returns." I push for a refund and they refuse to accept it. Then proceeds to tell me to fuck off and sue him if I have a problem. Mercari wasn't much help, they won't take any action unless I return the unit at my expense....at which point I'll be out shipping back and forth, plus cost of a new box and packing materials. It's like 4X the cost of the item and just not worth the hassle, time and money. Machine seems to be in working order so I'm fine keeping it, just really pissed how much time and effort it was to deal with the ant invasion. Usually in cases like this, sellers will offer a few thousand yen refund to make up for the trouble and I would have been fine with that but this guy is just a straight up jerk.

Seller claims to be an independent, single person operation but the package was shipped from a fairly large truck/van dealer waaaay on the other side of the country in the inaka. Return address is the same. My guess is the guy works there as he was quick with the threats about business defamation (meanwhile he's using the company name/address to make sales) I've already put the company on blast anywhere online it's registered and allow customer reviews. I don't have the guys name so no way to call him out at the company but I assume one of the reviews will eventually be noticed. Any other suggestions to turn on the heat??

My suggestion: pick your battles.

Trying to get even with a shitty person using any and all methods possible will only lead to you being smeared in shit at the same time.
If he is as much of a straight up jerk as he appears to be, he won't care what you think of him, and will if necessary alter his identity minimally and continue as before.

Just regard this as yet another lesson in the marvelous world of internet marketplaces.

So the guy is seemingly amiable to a partial refund for the trouble after his company (or him?) got wind of the customer reviews. For a company claiming to be an uninvolved, third party, they have a lil too much info. If Mercari refunds as described, I'll delete the reviews and call it a day but I'd love to send an exploding bag of doggie doo their way.

On a similar topic:

I've never seen another company as quick to bend over as Amazon. They keep using careless drivers, delivering items to neighbors...and then refund me, only to have the neighbor deliver the item to me the next day. Maybe this is their new "ZERO FREE AMAZON PRIME" service?

Amazon is so turning to shit these days it’s borderline comical…
Next day delivery range from 16h to 3 days…
And the marketplace sellers… it’s much better to deal directly through ebay or aliexpress…
Ordered a 141R Mikado SNCF late september… still waiting with a parcel apparently lost twice by NL post… while otiginating from the UK. As for the local marketplace sellers they are king of selling items they don’t have then cancelling the order justvat the delivery date 2-3 weeks later.
Not counting those that sell a box of staples for half a miliun yens… WTF …

Those are almost Caliphate countries, maybe it will be ok however if 'stolen' or missing, maybe the islamic workers probably stole your items. The pedo mohammad was accused of stealing from islamo people and hijacking camels and stealing clothes "And no real Prophet could ever be false to his trust" but was revealed about a red velvet. When it was found missing on the day of Badr, some people said; Perhaps the Messenger of Moongod al-Lah has taken it.

Property rights for non-Muslims exist only at the discretion of their Muslim rulers. Non-submissive infidels frequently had their property stolen from them by Muhammad's warriors, which sometimes included wives and children.

Sahih Bukhari (53:351) - "Booty has been made legal for me."

Not sure about Britbong but People are getting freaked out thinking Geert Wilders could mass deport?

if someone stole something tracked Amazon will probably replace it and send it again
