dodgy

OK, two months until I head home (2 weeks until the family go).

I've got a Nat Health Insurance payment overdue, and a tax form due to be submitted shortly. With the limited time left coupled with Japanese bureaucracy, how likely is it I'll get stung if I simply ignore both taxes for the remainder of my stay?

How much do you owe in taxes?

Not sure. It's a bit of a grey area whether I should be paying taxes anyway (I'm on a "living allowance" rather than a wage). The form I currently have looks like a tax return with a deadline in red letters of 3/16. Not really concerned, I'll run it by my boss and he'll fill in the blanks.

I'm more interested in the heath insurance people.

Wait a minute: Don't you want that full refund of pension deductions of the past year? Or is the pension refund less than the two months you will taxes and health insurance you plan to skip??

You've got at least 6 months for the gears of bureaucracy to engage...maybe a year before they start to crawl forward. I've gone 2+ years at one time without paying. 8)

Most part-time freelancer teachers pay very randomly, if at all. My Japanese editor working freelance for SoftBank in 2-3 month full-time projects went 5 years without paying much of anything
