Battlestar Galactica 2004

Postby Big Booger » Fri Feb 13, 2004 8:53 pm

A few days ago the Sci Fi Channel officially announced a 13 episode season for Ronald Moore's Battlestar Galactica remake. Looks like they'll be bringing back most of the cast members, including Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell. The new series will begin a few days after the miniseries that aired a few months back. Production commences next month in Vancouver, B.C.

I cannot wait to see these.. it might take years to get to Japan.. but thank god for VHS via "family mail"

If you haven't seen the first 2 episodes (AKA "The Miniseries" You should know that it has definitely changed. Buck is now a girl. The cylons are some mean muthers... and they have humanoid cylons that look exactly like humans.

This is the best news I have heard so far this week.

Imagine Commander Data, but with normal emotions.. kind of like his evil brother.. I forgot that fuckers name.. but you get the point if you watched Star Trek TNG.
:D

The other mechanoid cylons have fingers that shape shift like the T1000.. and they don't look like an over shiny video game any more LOL

That show is f*cked up!!!

Postby American Oyaji » Fri Feb 13, 2004 11:59 pm

They took out all the black men!!!

Boomer was a black guy and now its an asian chick. So was the Executive Officer and now its a white guy.

There are no black male characters.

And during the pilots briefing all the black pilots were in the back row.

I don't usually jump on race issues, but I loved the original Battlestar BECAUSE it was diverse.

In America its getting VERY difficult to find any positive images of Black men.

Ultra,
There are MANY Black fans of the original series who've been dismayed by this "renewal"

I cannot wait to see it regardless. There are no Middle Easterners either from what I could tell.. :D I didn't see any Native Americans either :D

But you are right, I don't know why they changed the african american actors from the original series.. unless they wanted to go for a more sexual tone to appeal to a larger target audience?

I bet there will be black actors that will be included in the show. Though I wonder why they were not in the mini-series.

But maybe, just maybe, the cylons killed all the black people with those nukes? LOL

I don't agree with all the changes, but hey, it is remake and there are bound to be changes from the original to fit the times.

They did include James Edward Almos, the leader.. who is a prominent hispanic. The original character was white..

A humanoid model of Cylon. With drop-dead looks and a perfect body, her every move and gesture is smooth and precise, her eyes keenly intelligent. And God talks to her....

I guess this is what the well-dressed Cylon is wearing this season:

Doesn't look very combat-effective though.

Regarding the characters in the new BSG , I think theres something youve seemed to fail to grasp . The new film is set 50 years after the original series finishes and the reason that the characters have the same names is because they are just " Call signs " assigned to them according to which viper they fly , not their REAL names - Just thought id point this out

P.S - Having just watched it I can't understand how ANYONE couldnt like it , the cinematography is breathtaking , the special effects breathtaking , the score is fabulous and the storyline in a belter! All in all i have to say it's the best sci-fi flick Ive seen to date ( and yes that includes any of the star trek films , bladerunner and it knocks the crap outa star wars - lol )

Dont you all know there is no black men is space. Its like a rule or something (although there are black women the first interacial kiss was the whore from startrek).

Also there are no black men in fantasy. e.g. LOTR(maybe an orc or two but no charactor). I was supprised to see a black elf in dungeons and dragons. What a shock to the system.
Am I still not allowed to have a sig?

<nerd red alert!>

Deep Space 9: Captain Sisko and Jake, Cassidy, et al
Star Trek Next Generation : WHOOPI G!
WORF! WORF! WORF! WORF! Geordi LaForge, Tuvok in Voyager, or Travis Mayweather in Enterprise.
But I have to say Lt. Ohura is The Capt and my fav!

Here's a race breakdown of characters but several cases race is rather moot. For example, Lt Torres is actually part black but she plays a Hispanic, and I swear I never noticed that Worf was black until I saw him in an interview out of character.

Got me. All I know is that I've had a hard time watching Michael Dorn as Worf ever since he did the voice of I. M. Weasel. (link requires Real Player)

Oh wait, it was that blonde chick. Denise Crosby, as Tasha Yar. (Thank you, IMDB!)

This thread kinda reminds me of a bad joke, here it goes:

The Saudi Ambassador to the UN has just finished giving a speech and walks
out into the lobby where he meets President Bush.

They shake hands and as they walk the Saudi says, "You know, I have just
one question about what I have seen in America."

President Bush says "Well your Excellency, anything I can do to help you, I
will do."

The Saudi whispers "My son watches this show 'Star Trek' and in it there
are Russians, and Blacks, and Asians, but never any Arabs. He is very
upset. He doesn't understand why there are never any Arabs in Star Trek."

President Bush laughs, leans toward the Saudi, and whispers back, "It's
because it takes place in the future...."
Receptionist: How do you write women so well?
Melvin Udall: Easy. I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.

Bingo, Tasha Yar it is! I thought Denise Crosby was kind of hot when I saw the series. Can't believe she's almost 50.

Postby canman » Fri Mar 12, 2004 10:20 am

After reading this thread, for some reason I had this flashback to the tv show Buck Rogers in the 24th century. Does anybody remember that show. I think the female star was Erin Gray. God how I loved her for about a year or so. I hated the old Dr. I think hhis name was Dr. Theopolis. Sorry just a weird flashback.
