I made my very first music video... check it out

Postby AlbertSiegel » Wed Jun 30, 2004 5:14 pm

I worked on this for some time. I had never done this sort of thing and learned what to do while I worked on it. It may not be as great as what Rob Pongi or Mr. Sparkle can do, but it's a start. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this. Please post your opinion.

It would be best if you right click (or CTRL + click) and select "save target as" to download. This is a 25mb quicktime file.

There is also a VCD ready MPEG version at just 32mb.

Cool. 8) I like the chick gettin' down at the Harjuku freak show area. What did you use for editing?

That must've been Ayu's extasy days.. Everyone has a rave period, it seems.

Thanks for sharing..

Tokyo Video

Postby bolt_krank » Wed Jun 30, 2004 6:45 pm

Some nice shots, some nice music.
But there were a few things lacking as a "music video",
mainly the changing of shots to the timing of the beat.
At some parts this was spot-on, but others a little off.

A few shots lasting longer than about 2 - 3 seconds may
have been better too.

Also, the moving camera was a little hard to follow, but I'm sure
that can be fixed on the next effort.

Overall, it was well done. You've produced something better than
I could ever do. I look forward to seeing the future projects.
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

That was the first thing you ever edited? Good job! :D

Keep it up. Just a couple of quick tips. Vary your shots a bit more - I think I was wanting more close ups. You might also toy with speed adjustment - slo mo is really effective in that frenetic paced world. Although the shaky, handheld thing is OK for NYPD Blue, I was also wanting smoother camera movement and also some locked down shots.

I suggest a "mini-pod" that you can slip into a large pocket or small bag. You can use a bench, concrete riser or table for steady lock down shots. You can also fold it up and use it for your handheld work and it greatly helps your shots. Handheld camera work takes practice, as you can probably guess.

I saw some cuts and dissolves there. Maybe try a filter or a color adjustment on some of the clips. Might be fun.

Above all, you done good. Try a dramatic short now, starring you and your friends. Keep it to 5 pages of double spaced dialog.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for the kind words. This means a great deal to me.

Thank you for the idea. I am working on something in my mind at the moment.

Thank you for your opinion. I have taken that into mind and have made many changes to my video. I have uploaded the new one with the new changes and better ending. Please take a look at the new one and let me know if you like the changes.

Thanks! I like her too. I think she was a nice touch. I tried quite a few programs. Adobe Premiere, Ulead Video Studio, Ulead Media Studio, Avid DV, and finally Pinnacle Studio 9. I found Pinnacle to be my top pick. I really like the setup on that one as well as the great DVD option. I would have loved to try Final Cut Pro, but I do not have a way to try it at the moment.
